I don't get how any sports people are incredible. Sports people go through a lot , but so do a lot of other people.
They smashed boundaries or social norms? Well so did a lot of other people ^^.
I think sports people are kinda over glorified.
Just going back to this because I didn't respond properly at the time, and I assume it was largely directed at my calling Ellyse Perry incredible.
Saying that no sports people are incredible seems to be a pretty big generalisation to me.
To get to the highest level in anything, but specifically sport in this instance, is an admirable achievement. The required levels of dedication, perseverance and sheer skill are noteworthy in themselves. Professional athletes have put in countless hours to get to where they are today. Yeah, so have lawyers. So have teachers. So have tradespeople. So have doctors. So have engineers. I'm not saying they're
not incredible; I'm just saying that I think Perry is. And not even directly due to her feats on the field, either.
"Sports people go through a lot, but so do a lot of other people." No doubt - seems pretty self-evident to me, but I'm not sure of the relevance. Like, the moon-landing was incredible. Is it less so because people other than those involved go through a lot? Not at all.
"They smashed boundaries or social norms? Well so did a lot of other people." I'm not following your point here. Like, if they smashed boundaries and social norms, that's great. In the case of Perry, she most certainly has. Perhaps (admittedly debatably) more than any other cricketer in the history of the game.
But when you consider she represented Australia at the age of 16 in
two entirely independent sports, I think that's quite remarkable. It's the highest possible level for both sports. She was 16.
