As far as the Monash thing goes - that's understandable, Monash is pretty far away.
Having said that, if you don't go to Monash for your undergraduate, that automatically rules you out of a potential place in the graduate Monash medicine course, since they take only students who have done an undergraduate degree at Monash (with a heavy preference to Monash Biomedical Science graduates).
As far as the other medical schools go, Melbourne is the only other medical school to have prerequisites - being 2nd year Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. Here is a link to the subjects from other universities that are considered equivalent to these three prerequisites:
http://sc.mdhs.unimelb.edu.au/sites/studentcentre/files/VIC-Prereq-Subjects-last-updated-18Nov2014.pdfIf your subjects don't appear here, this means that they haven't been previously assessed. Hence, if you think your subject meets the pre-requisites, then you have to apply to Melbourne University to have your subjects assessed to see if they meet the prerequisites.
Looking at these prereqs, your best bet is to go with La Trobe (after your Melbourne/Monash preferences) Biomedical Science, then La Trobe Science. RMIT, Deakin and the other universities seem to be a nightmare in satisfying the pre-requisites.
Hope that helped!
