Eye for an eye does exist in law - but that's a matter for civil courts. Or is it more 'compensation' rather than 'pleasure in the party's suffering?'

As for one human to sentence another to death...I'd say you're right there actually.

I don't think compensation ever works for this. I don't think it's possible to compensate for loss of life. It's totally gone now. As childish as it sounds, I think it's just a glorified version of when you want to hurt the person who hurt you. What else can they do?

I think another interesting thing to think about is how different countries would deal with this situation. Namely developed vs non-developed.

As said before, I think money is a factor in this case.

Grunch.

They should be raped in prison IMO. Then brought to the verge of death, then healed, repeat until they actually die.

That's a little TOO harsh. Yes, they are fuckwits who deserve our contempt, but they are still living beings too. Plus...that'd be a bit hypocritical. Hey YOU can't rape, but I can, kind of thing.

Civil law Chicken - this case is criminal law, not civil, so you're right in that we can't talk about compensation.

The problem is, that won't solve anything unfortunately. Who would want to rape them as well? It just wouldn't work.

It's nice to see this thread always finds new ways to disappoint me :(

Maybe if we made them rape each other!

lol.

I'm certain I read about this somewhere.. It happened in ancient times though. The criminals were forced to punish each other somehow.

Russ - this thread disappoints you? You'd be interested to know that this thread is quite benign. Many adults are calling for the rapists to have their testicles and penis butchered off without anaesthetic in public and let them bleed painfully to death.

Chicken, Russ was being sarcastic.

Those people disappoint me. This thread, on the other hand, has managed to cover torturing them, raping them (with and without an iron bar), gang rape being better than regular rape etc. and it also disappoints me.

Would be awesome to see the rapists being humiliated and hurt that way. However, having someone rape them  is like walking 1 step forward than 2 steps back. The people raping them would be doing the same crime done in the first place.
Throwing them in prison and just letting the inmates do whatever they wan't with them would be the better option. At least in that case the intention isn't to have them raped. It'll happen anyway :P
