Hey. I just wanted to ask if I could get some tips and tricks about writing long response answers in the short answer section of the PDHPE HSC exam (6-8 markers). Also, i am really concerned about the options section of the exam, so if anyone can please offer some beneficial and helpful tips which can help me improve in my responses that would be great!

Thank you, Enass
Keep smiling and be happy!

as they say, the syllabus is our best friend when it comes to hsc. my two cents worth of advice is try to identify which part of the syllabus is being referred to in the question and then expand on the subpoints :) try and include examples where required and also use the key terminology we learn. goodluck!

Usually these questions will be based off the longer dotpoints - all you have to do is go through each dash point and provide 1 example for each. Always explain the significance of the theory applied to sport/physical activity (in FAP) or health priorities or whatever. As people have said...syllabus is really all you need! ;P

Can we make up statistics or do they need to be real?

They should always be real, and cite where they came from, eg ABS, AIHW etc. and what year.

Or if you can't remember the exact figure, one close to the real thing will suffice. A well-informed, made up statistic is certainly not ideal, but probably better than none at all  ;)

Hi! So CVD is the leading cause of death in Australians - it can be broken up into coronary heart desease (CHD), cerebrovascular diseases (stroke) etc. CHD is the single biggest killer, but it is a type of CVD.

Cancer is next. Lung cancer is currently the highest cause of cancer deaths which is increasing in incidence for females, but decresing in males.

Injury, however is the leading cause of death for people under 40, such as poisonings, suicides and car accidents

So: 1. CVD
      2. Cancer
      3. Injuries           /        Dementia and alzhiemers

the syllabus mentions 2! ATSI is a must and aanother one of your choice. Have a look at the syllabus for the other options.

Thank you so much! also Do we have to know all three of them extensively or simply two in depth?

Hey guys i just wanted to mention that the 'Students learn to' section in the syllabus is also very vital as its where BOS creates and forms any/all questions in the HSC exam, so it would be wise to know that section a swell as the left because than your half way to a band 6 result where the other half is knowing how to answer pdhpe questions (structure) with the right syllabus dot points and information that falls below! :)

You need to know the relative trends (like are the increasing/decreasing in incidence and prevalence) of all the diseases. But the syllabus says that you need to know CVD and cancer plus one other that you need to know in depth
