Hi so I have a question regarding hsc marking my teacher told me it is positive marking meaning if I added something extra eg : carbon has a smooth low friction co-efficient surface instead of carbon has a smooth surface they will ignore it and only mark the correct part can we be deducted marks for adding something is my teacher correct thanks  :)

I'm not an expert on the vagaries of the HSC marking process but I'm pretty sure the general rule is that marks can only be deducted if you add material that is either a) clearly incorrect or b) contradictory to something else you've stated in your response. As for additional but irrelevant information, you can technically be pinged if your answer is not 'concise and coherent', though this particular criteria has been rarely invoked of late and usually only applies to extended (5+ marks) responses.

I wouldn't be too concerned about adding extra details to an answer; it's far more likely that you'll be docked for not including the required points than for including extraneous information.
