Hey guys
Ive heard that the first two years in engineering at RMIT is very similar, this allows for easy transferring between different engineering fields if your mind hasn't been fully made up. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? Or is only certain engineering fields similar during the start.
Also if your grades during your first year of uni are good enough, are you able to take up another course i.e business or something?
Not too sure about RMIT but in Melbourne uni, the first year the subjects picked are pretty broad. As you progress, you narrow down onto the field that interest you the most.
In my first year I did physics, math and engineering systems; which allowed me to get into mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering easily. I chose mathematical physics in the end
From what Ive heard, even in specific streams in engineering, there are further specialisations, like in electronics you can specialise in robotics, data transmission and much more. But this is much later if you plan to do honours or masters.
My guess is that RMIT does the same thing, check the subjects you're going to take during the first year, and the prerequisites for the subjects taken for specific streams of engineering.
