Could I tutor?

Hey do you think it's possible for me to tutor next year? I mean, do you think I've got the high marks for it? (most of them are like 46, 48 etc) A few girls at my high school have recently asked me if I'm available, but I'm not sure...so...

If you think that you can communicate the material effectively, then there shouldn't be any barrier for you to tutor :)

There isn't a hurdle that a person needs to pass before becoming a tutor. If you are comfortable tutoring someone and you have time, I would say go for it :)

I know, but I don't want to put them in the wrong hands. I want to be sure that I can trust my previous skills enough to help them.

Then why are you asking us?
If you want to try tutoring and teaching, try it. The worst that happens is they decide not to come back for another lesson.

P.S I am still 90+ FTW, don't know why the fuck my nickname has changed.
46 and 48 are great scores.

Besides, score =/= tutoring ability

No, they are asking ME. I never offered. I just want to know whether or not I seem "qualified" enough.

Well yeah, you said that. So..if you want to try it, then go for it. If you don't, then tell them you're not interested.

e, my point here is that there's no reason to ask "could I tutor". I don't think worrying about scores or experience is useful here.

you can get 50 and premiers for a subject and still teach it horribly.

Teaching ability and scores in subject DO NOT CORRELATE!

Good tutors understand their students, know when appropriate to push their students, convey content/ concepts so that students can grasp it easily...

Are you passionate about teaching?, think you can explain things well...? do you have the patience?

I think you can't really know for sure unless you give it a try.

Alongside everything said above however, the first thing most students look for (when they don't know you) is your study score. This is because they don't know your actualabilities because they haven't met you.
In saying this, if you have friends who know your abilities and you are confident of your own ability, you should definitely tutor as a learning experience!

That's why I said "if you are comfortable tutoring..." As Zezima already mentioned, most students and parents would look at the tutor's study score first. If your friends know your study score and still want you to help them out, I think that's ok. As long as you are comfortable with the amount of knowledge you have, I can't see why you cannot become a tutor :)

.. And if the SS score of the tutor is very good, they should hire the tutor's tutor :)

I got a study score of 41 for English in 2010. I have been tutoring for 3+ years. The average study score for my students is 40 and I have helped students achieve high 40s. I will be starting Masters of Teaching in English (secondary) next year. Personally, I stuffed up the exam by writing on a text I had never read (long story) which dragged my exam mark down heaps so the fact that my study score is not a shining star does not mean that I suck at English. As long as your study score is not ridiculously low, you should have no problems. Thus, scores do not = your teaching skills.
