You're really looking for sampling types (random? convenience? stratified?), sample size (n needs to be greater than 30 for results to be significant), p values, ethical issues, experimenter bias and whether the design was such that you can't really compare the control group with the experimental group or if it was such that participants didn't act as they normally would as a result of their knowledge of being in an experiment.

So when the sample size is < 30 then result are insignificant?
never knew that!

Yeah has to do with the normal distribution. If you end up doing uni psych, you'll start studying that.

What everyone has suggested here is good. Another thing you could do (and this is owing to the lack of time teaching research methods) is to look thought the study design for psych and see what topics in research methods in the curriculum you don't understand and post it up, and everyone here can have a crack at explaining it.

Eriny -- Thank you so much! That's really helpful for research methods. I didn't have the participant/experimenter bias' to my notes, so i just added it then:)

Nova -- I really want to get 45 in psych, so i can only lose a couple of marks at most in the end year (difficult, but i want to aim high!) ;)

Glockmesiter -- Thanks, i will go through the study design&other practice exams within the next few days and if i have any trouble, i will post here!

NgRising-- Haha, that course is going to be added to my preference list, it sounds really interesting!:)

I should really get rid of the faculty stuff, that's just wank.

It's definitely not an unachievable aim, but just need to refine your knowledge a little bit.

Another effect that may be worth mentioning is placebo effect, which is one of the specific forms of participant bias and one you definitely need to know.

oh yeah i have that, placebo/experimenter effects & single/double blind procedures. thanks though i just forgot about the bias' ;P
i had the school's trial exam today under exam conditions and i read through the research methods thoroughly & it was pretty easy. most of it was actually & the little mistakes i could have made i'll be able to fix, except i'm quite sure i got at least 5 multiple choice wrong. i don't know how it's possible to improve on that :(

i know what you mean!!!! Im scared of "exhausting" the exam so that im not LEARNING, just memorising, especially with coruses with only 2-3 past exams

what id do is do chapter questions, as well as questions form companies, and even ones teachers give,
q's, q's q's is the key

look through where you did wrong and think, what did I do wrong?

look through the study design and think, what don't I know in detail?

Get a highlighter out and highlight the IV, DV, Population, Sample, things relevant to ethics, sampling method, and allocation method and then the questions will be pretty simple to answer. For multi choice, read all the options even if the first seems like it's obviously correct. GL :).
