Generally, no to domestic exchanges.

I believe that credit for units undertaken on exchange are handled on a case-by-case basis, otherwise they will use your electives up. You generally need at least a year (which is pretty much most compulsory units out of the way for the generalist degrees) before they'll let you go though.

I'm aiming at doing an exchange to Vienna in my 3rd year...especially because I know that they teach quite a few law units in ENGLISH (my German isn't good enough for that kind of stuff lol!). But would I be correct in saying that doing an exchange to an institution in the Northern Hemisphere would probably delay the completion of your degree slightly? Because their academic years always start in September :S
