Hi everyone, I just wanted to know whether or not the Basic Skills Jim Coroneos series is helpful for exam prep. I知 planning to purchase the reading comp one, but I don稚 know if I should also buy the books for maths and other stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated ;D

Hi @Aearator, I remember using these books and I found them relatively easy and irrelevant to the entry exam (Year 10). I remember when I did James An back then, the Year 9 Selective School Exam classes, which was really challenging, (a little overated but very relevant (got a Superior in Verbal Reasoning on the actual exam). Overall, if you are really wanting to get in to MHS in Year 9, I recommend self-studying on worthy books or tutoring (the main ones are James An/ Hendersons)
PM me if you have any questions about books regarding the exam as I did the Year 10 exam but got rejected with three superiors.

Thanks for the reply OchreOrca, but I知 trying out for year 9 entry. Would you reckon the books would be useful in this case? Also, I知 attending JAC TT8 prep classes and doing the homework books they give out.

Maybe for the Year 9 entry it would still be a bit easy. Are you doing well in your JAC classes?

I guess I知 doing alright, I usually get above average and sometimes the superior rank in my maths and English prac exams. I was planning to buy two reading comp Basic Skills Books to practice reading speed by setting strict time restrictions, and  was planning on buying a reading comp test book to do prac exams. This is because sometimes the JAC reading comp homework is way too easy, and currently we do tests like 30-40 questions in 30 minutes, so I知 worried I値l struggle in the actual exam.

As for maths, I知 going through a year 9 maths textbook and learning all the concepts. I was also planning on buying a Basic Skills maths test book as people have said that doing prac exams for maths will be really helpful. Do you reckon this would be a good idea?

Thanks for the help  ;D ;D

Thanks for the reply, and just wondering what books/material did you use for your prep? Again, thanks for your help :)

These Basic Skills books (pretty basic), ICE-EM Year 9 Math Books and extension work for school, JAC Selective School Classes was literally all I used to pull out three superiors. Oh and you need to know lots of vocabulary and stuff.

Cool, I知 basically using everything you use except I知 using the Essential Maths year 9 textbook. I知 also going to start a vocab book where I list important words, prefixes, suffixes and stuff like that.

Yes! Great idea, vocab book with prefixes and suffixes. Wow I never thought of that when I was preparing for it.
