Spesh - pros and cons?

Hey all,

Subject selection meetings are just around the corner so I need to start finalising. I think I've got a pretty good idea of what I want to do:
Bio 3/4
Methods
Chem
EngLang
Religion + Society
Revolutions

I thought this was a pretty solid list, however I've recently been contemplating whether or not to chuck specialist into the mix. To do this without boosting my workload, I'm gonna have to swap out either religion or revs (I want to go into medicine, so the rest are pretty important).

Currently, my main reasons for doing spesh are to (hopefully) boost my ATAR and to make methods easier. However, I think I'm more interested in doing religion and revs, and while spesh would make methods easier, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll do good in spesh.

So, would doing specialist be more beneficial? Or should I stick with the subjects I'll most likely be more engaged in?

Any advice is appreciated :)

Hey Duck Tails!  ;D

I think you should stick with the subjects you're more likely to be interested in. You are more likely to do well in subjects you are interested in, rather than picking subjects for the scaling (especially Specialist).
Specialist requires a lot of time, effort and perseverence so if you don't enjoy the subject, you won't necessarily obtain a high study score for it and you may even begin to hate it since you don't enjoy it. So, it won't necessarily boost your ATAR since that depends on how much effort you put into the subject, rather than the actual scaling

Hope this helps!

I definitely agree with Evolio, specialist maths is one of those subjects you really need to be committed to in order to do well. Students are always more likely to do better in subjects that they actually enjoy and are motivated in studying for than other subjects chosen for reasons such as scaling.
