Will I still make it into my course?
« on: December 30, 2020, 08:21:20 am »
My first preference course was a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne Uni, which has a guaranteed entry requirement of 88.00. The lowest selection rank from last year was 87.65. Problem is, my ATAR is 86.95 and I didn't apply for any special considerations. Is there any hope for me getting into my course, or is it time to pack it up and settle for my second choice?

Look at the VTAC website and see if there's any bonus points available for certain subjects(If you get over a certain study score for some humanities based subjects, you might get points added to your aggregate, which increases your ATAR). Also, the entry requirement might change this year. There's definitely still hope for you

Keep Arts at UoM as first preference, but keep one course preference that is lower than your ATAR to be safe. I'm guessing that you still have a reasonable chance given the current circumstances (e.g. COVID) and the lowest selection rank changes each year, so being so close, you might still get a spot regardless.

hairs9: Historically, UoM has stopped giving subject bonuses in recent years, unfortunately. Not sure if COVID would have changed that.

Is a 92.30 enough for bachelor of biomedical science at Monash
Last year's lowest selection rank was 92.1, as seen here, so yes in majority of cases.

I have the Atar needed for a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne Uni but I only got a 23 for Methods which is below the 25 needed. Has anyone heard of anyone accepting people with prereqs a few below the required score? I have Access Melbourne too but I don't know if that helps or not.

I have heard it for raw 24 SS, but this has been a rare case. I'm not sure about 23 SS. You can always ask UoM to be sure, but you might have to consider alternate routes sadly.

Ah okay! Yeah I am ready to go into Bachelor of Science at Monash since it doesn't require a Methods prereq and I am fine with the course, uni and everything but still slightly prefer the Bachelor of Science at UniMelb. Should I still keep it higher on my preference list just in case or just put Science at Monash higher?

Put preferences as you want them. In your case, you want Melbourne more, so put UoM Science as Preference #1 and Monash Science as Preference #2 (or a lower preference if wanted).

Even if you end up at Monash Science, try your best at uni, get a 70+ WAM at Monash and apply for transfer to UoM Science after a semester or year.

I got an ATAR of 85.00. The course I want is a double degree at Deakin of Nursing/Midwifery. The lowest they took in last year was 91.25 at the campus I want. I have subject bonuses that add up to probably 5 aggregate points. I also expect something for SEAS for medical stuff. Is it even worth hoping for?

I got an ATAR of 95.30. I really want to do physio at Monash, but the lowest selection rank, last year, was 96.15. Should I still keep it or change to my backup options? I don't have any SEAS/rurality and there are no subject adjustments for monash physio. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of that? How does it work if you don't mind explaining?
