Monash or Melbourne - Interested in Commerce and Engineering

Hey Guys, im in year 11 - still have time to think about it - but was wondering whats a better university for commerce and engineering, Melbourne or Monash? does one uni have a better employment rate then the other? Whats a better ranked uni?

Specifically im interested in banking & finance and civil engineering. I did go to Monash open day, and it seemed pretty cool, only went to 1 lecture on engineering and one on commerce and the lecturer mentioned something about Monash have all three accreditation's in the commerce faculty and there were also some highly regarded accreditations in the engineering faculty. I didnt go to UoM open day due to other things being on.

The subjects i'll have completed at the end of my VCE is English, Methods, Specialist, Further, Business Management, Accounting and Chemistry, and i've had a look at the atar requirements as well.

Also, could someone give me some extra information on the Melbourne Masters degree after you finish your under grad? does monash offer something similar? and is their any big differences between the courses at each uni - i understand that at melbourne you cant do a double degree as such but you can have those electives as part of your course if correct?

Thanks heaps!!

And:::::: Is their any subjects you would suggest me doing as well since course selection for year 12 subjects is at the end of this week (i am thinking of dropping accounting to focus on 4 subjects next year, i am doing 2 3/4s this year)

Want to do engineering ---> please pick specialist. It is in your favour to do specialist. I know it's there, but I can't highlight this enough.
Wants to do commerce and civil engineering ---> Best idea is to do Monash's comm/eng degree. Other option is to do a BComm at Melbourne, and pick your breadth carefully so that you can do a Masters in engineering still.

If you're interested in civil, I would also suggest trying physics over chemistry. AFAIK, 3/4 physics is very possible without 1/2, and a strong mathematics background (which you clearly have) will also help with this.

I tried physics and dropped out after unit 1 - didnt enjoy vce physics found it very dry. I know its very ironic i dont like physics and am doing engineering, but many people in the class are also doing what i did - but after unit 2. Many of my friends who are doing com/eng at monash did exactly what i did, they say the physics at VCE level is no way as interesting or hard as uni. I did very well in unit 1, getting A+ (99% on exam) overall but the physics at VCE level just bored the crap out of me - might've had a influence from the teacher who never really taught.

I did the same physics unit that people who do eng but didn't do VCE physics do (in fact, there were a lot of comm/eng people there), and I can promise you that it's a bore and a waste of a unit. If you were to go to Monash, I reckon you're better off doing physics at VCE, no matter how dry/boring you might find it. At least that way, you won't have to worry about physics when you get to uni.

Im not sure what to drop? im still interested in medicine if my atar and umat permit and also i find chemistry like the methods, its something you should have and is the base science everyone should do.

Plus wouldnt be looking foward going back to my physics teacher, he gave me alot of shit for leaving (in a good way - was top of class and thought leaving was a waste)

Monash for Engineering.
No comparable data for a Banking and Finance major, sorry.
