Exam 2: Question 1 and sound question
« on: November 15, 2012, 08:54:29 am »
In regards to question 1, what did most people get? I put down ES however originally had NE. If i remember the wording correctly they said "magnetic north" by that wording i interpreted as the north end of the magnet rather than the geographic "north pole" which would result in the answer NE, what did you guys get?

Also in regards to the sound question, question 2 (loudness traveling one), i put down A however have been corrected that it is C. I just want to know why it is C? Also where is this covered in the course? I use heineman and pretty sure it wasn't mentioned, not mentioned in A+ notes, and not mentioned in the study design, but basically any information would be appreciated.

Cheers

Also in regards to study score predictions; 85/90 mid year, 85/90 end of year, very high A+ SAC's: is it possible to get a 45?

Yes that sound question sorta stumped me.
I chose B.
My reasoning was as a wave passes through a point at 100Hz (T= 0.01s) pressure variation goes from maximum to minimum every period. Amplitude of wave is proportional to sound intensity level .: sound would present as increasing and decreasing in volume every period, or 0.01s. And from experience, I think this is true for low intensity sounds? In my head I was thinking low freq -> sorta sounds like wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwub (w softer than b). But yes, I don't know where that is in the course and the Heinemann text book definitely doesn't cover it, I reread sound last night trying to find it haha.

A and B were exactly the same answer just worded differently. So you should've eliminated those options and D was definitely wrong.

A and B were not the same answer hence why im annoyed because people who didn't study heaps would have picked C as it seemed the most logical without actually knowing the answer

What was A exactly? Do you remember?

something about it changing from loud to soft 100 times per second (freq = 100Hz), in my opinion option B said something like "every 0.01sec" implying that it wasn't a continuous change but rather a abrupt change however as a sound travels as a wave it would be a continuous change

I'm assuming it's because sound is longitudinal rather than transverse so instead of the loudness increasing and decreasing it just stays the same. Also if you think about the other question the loudness is a constant so and so dB.

Yes of course -.-
I was referring to change in pressure variation with respect to time, which is proportional to the sound intensity level of a sound wave. So, every 0.01 second, pressure changes from maximum (loud) to minimum (soft). That makes sense? Doesn't it?
I didn't use the 100Hz because THAT would assume sound being transverse. Well that's how I interpreted them. But yeah, I wish the examiners report would come out already hahah.
