Uni extension or another subject?

Hi I'm a year 11 student who will be completing 3 unit 3/4's at the end of this year. However, my chemistry marks aren't looking too good and I'm worried I will not be able to achieve the atar I'm reaching for.
My subject selections are due next week and I don't know whether I should do a uni extension or do English 3/4 next year. I am currently doing english language 1/2 and plan to take it next year as well. I didn't take English 1/2 and was told I would have to catch up on a lot of things during the holidays if I wanted to take english 3/4.
To boost my atar as much as I can, should I try to do a uni extension or should I take English???

Partially depends on your strengths/weaknesses/what uni extension you want to do, etc. With this much information, no way to tell.
Maybe ask turinturambar if you want anything like maths, what it's like? He did uni maths I'm pretty sure.

Doing two is Englishes is a good strategy if you are going for those extremely high 99 atars given the subjectivity of the english subjects.

I honestly don't think you would have to catch up heaps in English. Sure it would be good to get some practice in given you had a year off but English skills are developed all the way throughout your education and not just in 1/2 English.

However, uni extensions are great too. I did one in year 12 (MUEP Chemistry) and I found it to a good replacement for a vce subject. I think getting 4.5-5.0 in uni extension is less work than getting a 45-50 study score and scoring in uni is a lot more secure since you for the most you aren't scored against your peers.

Given the info I can't really give a straight answer on which is better but hopefully this information helps.

Hi, thanks for the replies.
I was thinking of doing criminology (deakin) or biomedicine (la trobe online). I've been doing pretty well in biology this year and the overview of the course sounds really interesting to me but criminology also seems like a cool new subject to explore and law is a career I'm considering so I'm hoping it will me give an insight into what it involves.
On the other hand, I've been doing well in english language this year but am not sure how I'm gonna do next year. I'm aiming for a 95+ atar so if I decide to do english next year - had about an 80 average in year 10 -  it will probably be to 'cancel' out my language's score, if that's even possible.
Am I ruining my chances of getting a high atar if I decide to only take English language?
How hard will I be working if I decide to take one of the above mentioned uni extension subjects? A little bit confused on which extension subject to take as well, so all opinions welcome.

I picked up uni extension maths at the start of the year, but then later dropped out. I do think uni extension is next level and teaching/learning style may be different to VCE courses. I think you should only do it if you are super passionate about it, I don't think you should do it if you are purely wanting to boost your atar as it is bottom two only. Hope that helps!
