Do health-related "rules", eg: drinking 2 litres of water a day, always having breakfast, largely avoiding fried food, having <5 coffees per day, brushing teeth every day, doing 'aerobic' exercise, etc, have much grounding in reality? What are your experiences in adhering, or not adhering to received wisdom?

 I know...
Out of the examples I listed, I only adhere to the one about always having breakfast, [though I sometimes exercise (no idea whether what I do constitutes 'aerobic exercise') and I've been brushing my teeth the last few nights as some of them have been hurting a bit.]

I drink a lot of water, but probably not 2 litres a day. I don't know, whenever I decide to 'be healthy' it doesn't really work for too long.

I've heard sticking to a low-calorie diet and eating less increases your life-expectancy. I think some people in Cuba have done this and have reached 100+ years in age as a result.
