Continuous reinforcement- reinforcing after every correct response
Partial reinforcement- reinforcing after some but not all correct responses
- Fixed ratio schedule: reinforcing after a fixed number of correct responses
- Variable ratio schedule: reinforcing after an unpredictable number of correct responses but maintaining a mean (eg: once in every 10 desired responses but randomly)
- Fixed interval schedule: reinforcing after a set amount of time
- Variable interval schedule: reinforcing after an unpredictable amount of time but maintaining a mean (eg: once every 30 seconds but random times)

The variable ones are effective at maintaining a response because it leaves the individual wondering when the next reinforcement will occur, thus the individual maintains the desired response in expectation that they will receive the reinforcement (but they don't know when).

well the above just explained what it is, but if you want an example: giving dogs a treat when it sits
* Continuous reinforcement - everytime the dog sits, it gets a treat
* Partial reinforcements:
- Fixed ratio - every 2 times it sits, it gets a treat
- Fixed interval - every 10 seconds of continuous sitting, it gets a treat
- Variable ratio - giving a treat the first, third, seventh and nineteenth times it sits (random amounts)
- Variable internval - giving a treat to random periods of time (five, thirteen, 49 seconds) of continuous behaviour (sitting)
