From the current activity in the forum, I'm glad I made this suggestion. Thanks for listening, guys. :)

Perhaps it's what the "uptight" cohort of 2013 needs. :P

I think having it in "Unread Posts" is fine, otherwise it'll be pretty unlikely that new users will be able to find it :)

I am happy for this to go ahead on 3 conditions:

1) No respect on the board (obviously)
2) Doesn't contribute to post count
3) Doesn't show up in recent posts.

The 2nd and 3rd posts may need David's tech wizardry to achieve. He is currently stretched very thin, working on a million things. This will have to wait until he has the time to make it happen.

Thank you for your understanding.

I agree with 2 and 3, but 1 depends on your definition of respect. If, as I remember someone said, it's the extent to which the user is helpful, then this is 1 should apply. But I don't know if respect should only be given to people who are helpful. For instance, in the Haiku game, I think we should open respect so that someone who has written a good poem is acknowledged (lol not me and my mistaking syllables for words). Also, respect allows us to vote in the negative so that someone who uses this board to do stupid things - me - is more restriced. You could argue that a moderator could simply ban them, but I'm talking about small things that don't deserve a ban.

Although with 2, I swear more than half my posts have been on this board :)

#1 definitely applies bluehorizon. The respect system governs the tutoring advertisements on the homepage, and someone writing awesome haikus doesn't make them a good tutor. It's not directly educational (although it is nice to appreciate art). It would also mean the 'truth game', 'word association game' and '3 word game' would have respect enabled (which would just be silly ofc)

thats ur definition of 'respect'. People who make a unique or interesting response in those games can still deserve respect imo. It's just in general how much one person is respected.

...No, it's the company's view of respect. If we're talking about upvotes and downvotes, amount of 'respect' directly correlates to advertisements for tutors. That is the function of the respect system. Not to show how one person is funny or makes unique games. Ofc, they deserve respect in the general sense of the word, but not on the website's system.

I'm pretty sure someone's already mentioned this in another thread, but I think we should have some sort of system similar to respect implemented on these sorts of boards which allows people to acknowledge funny posts, but not necessarily linked to 'respect' and the tutor ads etc.

Sometimes there are posts that I legitimately feel bad for not showing my appreciation, they are that amusing

anyway that's my 2c, and may be too hard to implement or what not

That's a good idea, but David has a lot on his plate at the moment, so it's really up to him if he has to time to do something like this :)

Karma was disabled for a reason. Honestly, forum games is a place for funposting and whatever, there's really no need to have any sort of system there
