Trial and Error In terms of Instrumental learning?

How does everybody explain the connection between Trial and Error & Instrumental learning? only a few more days left till exam btw arhhh :uglystupid2: :uglystupid2:

In the instance of the puzzle box...

The cat had tried various different responses until a successful response resulted in a desired outcome. This is trial and learning.

Now, instrumental learning states the likelihood of any response is due to the consequence of that response (desired or undesired response).

Through trial and error, the cat first establishes an association between a specific response (pulling lever) and a desired outcome (escape), and through instrumental learning the cat repeats this response (pulling lever) as it results in a desired consequence (escape).
