Week 11I finished classes today!! Have 2 assessments to do and then holidays. However, I’m not too keen for these holidays. I feel like they’ll be really boring.
I have an online camp in the holidays (CBS has our mid-year conference) so hopefully it’ll still be interesting and I’ll be able to meet some more people. I’m also teaching my first clarinet student on Thursday! Never expected my first lesson would be through zoom! I’m excited but also a bit nervous that I won’t know what to say, or I’m going to have to try hard to be engaging online.
I handed in my Queens Award folder yesterday! It’s the highest international Girls Brigade award (I’ve been working on it for 4 years). It’s included volunteering/GB/church service, a music major work, initative tasks, references, a speech, and a few events. I still need to do a tiny bit of volunteering, follow up a reference & an award review interview. It should be presented at the end of the year at government hose which is exciting.
I’ve been facebook messaging and regularly video chatting a few of my friends during social isolation. I hate phone calls (it makes me really anxious) but I find video calls a lot better! Had an almost 2hr call with one of my friends last week, which got a little long but was really great to meet up and chat!!
I'm hating social isolation right now! At this point, it’s annoying that I don’t know how long this will go on for. I miss going to uni, band, etc and seeing everybody.
At this point, it looks like term 2 will be online (or at least start online). I’m doing 3 subjects next term: performance lab, special education: inclusive strategies, and becoming a performer (another one of my pedagogy units). I really enjoyed my pedagogy unit last year but I’m not sure how good it will be online. Apparently, this units meant to be the least practical so hopefully it’s still good. My timetables great next term (only 2 1/2 days of class) and I probably won’t be at uni!
Performance Lab: We had part checking due this week (which was a bit weird because we only had ensembles for 4 weeks). I had to upload videos playing excerpts from the piece we were working on, and some extra orchestral excerpts. I really enjoyed this course at the start of the term, but not as much when it went online. Were meant to be doing conducting next term so hopefully that’s fun!
Managing the classroom: This has by far been my favourite education course. It was almost a sad, bittersweet ending today, our lecturers been amazing! Our last assessments due on Friday and it’s taking me ages to do. Its a 2500 word classroom management plan: broken into a philosophy, theory and practise section. We need references for everything, so it’s taking a while.
Digital Lit: Our last assessment is a max 4 minute video on our content for a flipped classroom. I’m doing it on how to answer a HSC music 1 aural analysis question. I’m basing it on year 11 students to prepare them for year 12. I’ve got my script ready, I just need to film and edit it. I might upload it to the music forums if I’m happy with it.
This is what my website looks like so far (I still need to work on it’s presentation a bit though). This course hasn’t been as exciting as my other education course but it’s still been interesting to learn.
