The clearest examples of Bolsheviks sticking to the plan vs. changing the plan then sticking to it are seen in the more turbulent events (insurrections, wars, policy crackdowns). Depending on your stance you might want to look at some of these events closely and use Bolshevik actions during those events as evidence that they enacted/manipulated Communist ideology - and of course, how those actions specifically at that time contributed to their consolidation of power. The extent to which the latter part of that statement happened should be large - we don't care about one peasant rioting as in the grand scheme of things this doesn't deter/assist the Bolsheviks in consolidating power (try looking at things like the Civil War, NEP, etc).
