   50:   0; 49:   0; 48:   0; 47:   0; 46:   0; 45:   0; 44:   1; 43:   2; 42:   1; 41:   0; 40:   2
Where did you get these stats from? wouldn't mind looking through a few things from last year for my school.

Awesome! See I'm in the top 5% of a weak cohort and my scores range from best (9, 9, 8) and worst (8, 7, 7) so I'm not too sure where that leaves me. Thanks for your help (and Brenden as well)

How weak is weak though? Let me do some research :P

Oh wow, you go to Mater Christi? :P I know a couple of mates there, but anyways, umm, this is the stats for your school:

Quote
Mater Christi College, Belgrave (6 total)
   50:   0; 49:   0; 48:   0; 47:   0; 46:   0; 45:   0; 44:   1; 43:   2; 42:   1; 41:   0; 40:   2

So you can probably see that it's not THAT weak of a cohort, there was a 44, 43, 42, 40 last year, with a total of 6 over 40s in English, so it's a pretty decent cohort, I'd probably place it in the "average" rather than "weak" category.

So yeah, if you're in the top 5% of this cohort, you should be able to crack around a 40 study score if you shell out an 8, 8, 7 (23/30), but yeah, if you do better, then you might even be able to crack a 42 - 43

Are you sure about Mater not being a weak cohort? A lot of students this year really don't give a shit.

Mhmm. Escpecially for English. There are four classes (I don't know if that group is large or small in the scheme of things) and most people can't write well, haven't read the book/play or just don't care.

Are you sure about Mater not being a weak cohort? A lot of students this year really don't give a shit.

Well I used the 2011 statistics and you guys did rather well. 6 study scores above 40 isn't actually that bad, like, it's much, much better than many other schools who consistently get no English study scores above 40 every year. But I guess what you have to consider as well is that it varies across years, like, just because last year's cohort did alright doesn't mean that this year's cohort will as well, so I guess if you're right and a lot of them actually don't give a shit then yeah, this year's cohort will be weaker than last year.

Mhmm. Escpecially for English. There are four classes (I don't know if that group is large or small in the scheme of things) and most people can't write well, haven't read the book/play or just don't care.

Well, the issue is, what's important is that the people who have ranked higher than you do really well on the exam. So the thing is, you don't have to worry about how everyone else below you will perform, because if they do really badly, they won't drag down your SACs, it's those who are going to achieve highly.

So as long as you have a good top bracket, you should be alright. Like, say, with my cohort last year, a pretty strong English cohort, even if I added 100 people who didn't care about English at all and just did crap, it wouldn't alter my mark because they'd be ranked below me.

just wondering, doesnt this seem a bit too high?

Psychology
GA 1: 152/180 GA 2: 190/200 GA 3: 162/180  --> 46
Yes, I would say 42
Psychology
GA 1: 157/180 GA2: I don't know but I got rank 1 for unit 4 sacs and either rank 1 or 2 for unit 3, in an average cohort (median SS was 28 last year, I think it will improve slightly this year though.) GA3: Perhaps 162 or 163.
I'm trying to work out what unit 4 exam mark I'd need to get a medium or high 40 SS - is my unit 3 exam mark here not high enough to make much of a difference with a similar unit 4 score?

Yes, I would say 42

Could you please predict these for some of my friends:

Psychology
GA1: 163/180  GA2: 190/200 (scaled)  GA3: 163/180
GA1: 158/180  GA2: 200/200 (scaled)  GA3: 168/180
43
44

thanks!
SB is on the money for all three. I dunno wtf I was thinking when I said 46?! :S Thanks heaps for pointing that out. If anyone sees a mistake please feel free to point it out as above!

dont get how 7 more marks over two exams and higher sacs only brings you up 2 study scores..  LOL oh well we'll find out end of year wont we :)

It's just solely my PREDICTION. If you are not happy with it then you can totally disregard it. It is a little hard to pinpoint the exact study score someone is going to get, if you want it to be more accurate I would probably add one on top of what I said as I am normally fairly conservative. Better to underestimate than over.

It's very, very hard to predict study scores accurately because to be honest, nobody knows how hard the upcoming exam will be and nobody will know what the GA distribution for that exam will look like, so yeah, I agree with SB, essentially it's a prediction, if you're not happy with it, go find out how to predict and then do it yourself (guide is in my sig).

Wait, isn't there only one ECO exam?

cheers guys

That's somewhat irrelevant, ranking is what really counts.

You do methods, you should know what a normal distribution curve looks like, extremely bunched up in the middle, very dispersed at the high ends, meaning that a little movement can move your study score a great deal.

Or at the ends, a large movement can move your study score a minimal amount.
