Can someone pls give a second opinion for me?

Someone told my friend that for Legal:

A 2015 student with SACs for both unit 3 and 4 at around 94% and Rank 3
And an ESTIMATED exam mark of 65-67 / 70
Got a 35 SS.

Said student’s “estimated exam mark” was just their approximation post-exam though as they didn’t pay the $ needed to get their results.

Would you agree with me if I were to say that they almost definitely overestimated their exam mark? And realistically, had they gotten an exam mark of 65-67, approx what SS should they have been looking at??

Obviously it depends on the cohort but looking at the grade distributions from last year, a 61+/70 would have landed you an A+ on the exam.

provded they got a decent sac mark, they were probably looking at atleast high 30s
2015 - Further Maths

2016 - English, Methods, Specialist, Physics, Chemistry.

Aims: To succeed, nothing more, nothing less.

zzz cmon man think logically! Of course he overestimated his exam score. The A+ for legal last year was 61/70. if he got a 66, with his sacs and rank, he would have gotten around 45-47. You cant get mid A+SACS and exam and only get a 35 lol. Either he overestimated or VCAA made a mistake.

If you want some insight on this. Generally B+ SACS with an A+ exam will get you at least a 39. The key is to A+ the exam. For a reference to legal, my friend, in all honesty, dropped 1 mark the whole year in difficult sacs. Her internals were 199/200. She panicked, got an A on the legal exam and received a 39. It all comes down to the exam my friend.

Good luck!

I knew that but my friends don't trust my judgement esp cos
a) they're too busy stressing and reevaluating their ATAR goals as a result of ^ and
b) "Legal's different! You're more of a science/maths kid so you'll obviously instinctively understand what study score = what exam score better for those subjects but you can't use that understanding for a subject like Legal!!!"  - Legit what one of my stressed out friends said when I questioned just how reliable the student's claims were. ::) ::) ::)

Having a removed third party agree with me gives my dismissal of the student's claims some ground to stand on.

Thanks! :)

yeah, youd get higher than 35, easy 40+ imo. A B+ lands you a 35 very easily for legal, even with low sac (happened to my friends last yer in our legal cohort)
this being said, if you peruse through the legal thread, there is one or two anomalous study scores? i forgot the user- but someone did buy a statement and got 100% sacs, equal rank 1 in a cohort with like 5 other people, and got 61/70 to net a 35 ss....
i think the user reported because all the equal rank 1s did horribly on the exam i.e c in relation to their sacs, they all went down miserably :/
ill link the thread if i can find it:

40+, but unfortunately dont think itd be super high 40s like 47+ if cutoff is  around the 90s, if its lower, than yeah close to 45

SACs: 87%, strong cohort
If I get 92/110 (worst case scenario) - 40+ still possible?
I know it would've been possible last year, but I can't tell whether this year's exam was harder/easier :/

Hey Hasiba, Can you give me a baseline for economics. Someone said 42-44 before, however I though this was too generous for my scores. (The exam was harder this year)

SAC average 85%, rank 4ish, moderate-strong chohort/hard SACS.

Exam prediction: 82/90

Thanks
