Biology vs Spec Maths

Hey, I'm just starting year 12 in 2009. I'm doing Methods, English Language, Chemistry, Biology and Philosophy (completed Psychology this year).

For the university course I was wanting to do- Biomedical Science/Engineering at Monash in Clayton- I needed to do either Specialist Maths or Physics (as well as Methods or Chemistry). I was the only person that was doing Specialist next year though, so the class wasn't going to run. (I was going to do Distance Ed for it, the principle decided against it for some reason, and the local schools had time table clashes so I couldn't do it elsewhere).

Instead I ended up just doing Biology and hoping I can get into Science/Engineering at Monash (which requires a higher ENTER, but doesn't need anything other then English, Methods and Chem), and transferring into the course I wanted after a year.

I'm not sure whether that was the right decision in the long run.. Any opinions on the matter?

Ah, that's a bummer.
Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 35 in English (ESL) or 30 in any other English, a study score of at least 25 in chemistry, mathematical methods (either) and in one of physics or specialist mathematics.

Hmm. No chance of you doing physics? Either at school or through distance?
I'm not sure how hard it is to pick up 3/4 without 1/2 though. (assuming you didn't do physics, correct me if I'm wrong)
A bit of info on this here: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,1750.0.html

You can still take subjects similar to Biomedical Science within the Science degree. It's just a matter of getting credit for the science subjects if you transfer to the biomedical science/engineering degree after a year. (Call up Monash to find out whether you get credit maybe?)
Ends 12 noon Monday 22 December for Year 12 VTAC applicants
Telephone: 1800 MONASH
You can still call up to enquire about stuff even if you're a '09er. They don't mind/won't know.

(Biomed is a subset of science anyway)

All the best.

Thanks. I was going to do physics 3/4 but I hadn't done 1/2 (plus one of my teachers destroyed the subject for me, so I would fail that miserably :P)
I'll try call Monash and find out some information about it.

NO! wrong idea, you'd go into a spiral of downturns. If you haven't done physics 1/2, then you will severely struggle to complete 3/4. 1/2 builds on to 3/4. Also i'd advice against distance ed specialist. That would be like playing with a razor blade hoping not to get cut. It's very difficult to do well in specialist by yourself. mmm i had the same dilemma but different circumstances. I was thinking of biology instead of specialist but since i'm doing engineering i might need the extra aggregate or pre-requisite.

Yeah, in the end I still have to do Biology. Ah well, hopefully that means I'll get a better study score for it (and ENTER *fingers crossed*).
