Not a VCAA exam writer, I promise. I'm really interested to know other people's views on this and what they can add. I agree with this quote and I find it to be an important quote to keep in mind as subjects start to become dull and tedious. It's the learner's responsibility. No academic discipline, or certain parts of it, is intrinsically "boring" to learn, it's the attitude of the learner's mind that should be looked at.
BTW, I literally just found out about this quote today and it's already dramatically altered my perspective on my subjects! I guess the only caveat with this is that you run the risk of extending yourself
too far outside the realm of the study design, but honestly, going above and beyond is the only way for me to truly, deeply engage with the content I'm being taught in a more intimate manner.
In summary, Understanding > Memorisation.
