Do you need 1/2 Philosophy to do 3/4?

No, not necessarily.

Though some theories may be repeated, they are repeated. No prior knowledge is assumed theory wise.  The skills you develop in Unit 1/2 in terms of critical thinking and philosophy essay writing skills are valuable, but not essential.  With a good teacher or simply with a desire to learn, these skills can be developed when studying Units 3/4.

Nah but Unit 1/2 is handy for logic and reasoning as that isn't covered in 3/4 and that is important when coming to evaluating philosophers arguments
