Hey guys, just wondering: who marks end-of-semester exams? Is it only the head lecturer who does so, or do the tutors get involved as well?

As I understand it, it depends on the subject. Some subjects even have PhD students mark exams, many will have tutors mark them too.

Hello, ive done 8 subjects in my first year, and will be doing chemistry 2 in the summer.

Does that mean i can do 3 subjects in semester 1 of next year? Or do i must do 4 in a given semester?

You can do three subjects to be considered a full-time student as a domestic student. So 3 is fine, however, you could do 4 in semester 1 next year and save the reduced load for your third year if you wanted to (this is what I will be doing just to reduce stress on more intensive third year subjects).

Curiosity has infected me again...what would be an accurate estimate of the proportion of commerce students possessing an H1 wam? Around 10%?

I would say closer to 15-20%

Would anyone know if it sane to take ENGR-20004 - Engineering Mechanics in the summer? I've read all the review for it but they were done 6 years ago and I don't know how much the subject has changed.

You can read the archived handbook entries to compare the content of the subject. Will give you a bit of an impression of how much it has changed

Tl;dr yes, do eng mech over the summer.

I took Eng Mech in semester one, 2017. It was a challenging subject as a lot of content was introduced in a short time. The first part of the subject  focuses on statics, with the latter part of the subject on dynamics. The dynamics portion was undeniably more difficult than statics, however I would imagine that undertaking the subject over the summer would be beneficial as you have only that subject to focus on. From memory,  you are provided with numerous examples in tutes and workshops which formed the majority of my learning/revision. Most assignments are completed in groups, so you'll have a few people who you can rely on to help you if you get stuck! Go for it, you may as well get one subject out of the way so that you can do fewer over the proper semester.

I also took Eng Math over the summer and found it easier to commit all my time and attention to one subject.

Hi there, I am wondering whether you have to get a 96+ ATAR to do biomed in UoM?
Using the ATAR calculator, I try to estimate my atar and realised that depending on my English score, my ATAR can range from a 93+ to 96+....

So in case the worse happens and I actually failed my English exam, is it still possible for me to get in biomed with an Atar below 96? Or in other words, what is the lowest atar required to get in to this course in 2019? And when does the clearly in rank score publish every year?

First time posting in the forum, sorry for these stupid questions hahah

Welcome to AN!

Someone posted a report a while ago with figures about scores at UniMelb, but suffice to say that the clearly in is only the ATAR at which everyone with that ATAR who applied was accepted. Plenty of people are accepted below the clearly in, usually about a third of the cohort from memory. Just depends on how SEAS stacks up most of the time

Thank you so much for replying!

So just to make it clear, does that mean that I can put biomed as my first preference and have the hope that I will be accepted even if I do not get 95+ (Say around >93 to <95)? Or do I have to wait for the second round offer or something?

I have seen the stats on VTAC websites but could not be sure what that suggests, thanks for clearing it up!

If biomed is what you want put it as your first preference no matter what ATAR you get since there is always a chance that clearly ins change between years.
If you get between 93 and 95 and have bonus points and/or SEAS you have a chance of getting in and if you don't get an offer you will also have a chance for second round offers.

Hi I am so sorry but could you explain what bonus points and SEAS means? And also does it mean that I will get an offer for sure if I have an atar above 96?
