Heya! Im trying to understand why its 1/4 outside the brackets. Overall im pretty confused about the question as im ussually used to the one application rule

My prediction is that you got the fraction confused because you forgot about the impact of .5 on the computation.

BTW with the h=b-a/n dont forget to change it to a decimal so when it goes over the fraction it does not become to tricky
Did HSC in 2016 and was first person to get 100. Aeronautical engineering for me now :P

What's the problem of fractions in fractions? I see that all the time from 2U onwards. Just draw the line longer if the fraction is to be evaluated later than others.

I find that the decimal point causes more confusion because too many people use "dot" to mean multiplication.

That might be a safety precaution, though I never found that a problem. The calculator makes it clear which lines are longer than others. If it helps you, go for it.

The display is similar to Casio fx-82 AU PLUS, which is what's often sold to students these days I think

Weirdly enough, they checked back in 2013 when I was doing 2U, but never in my later years.

I was accelerated.

I did 2U in Yr 10
3U in Yr 11
And then all the rest in Yr 12
