HI, I'm just wondering if anyone is able to explain the clonal selection theory to me in simple terms - such that I am able to write a basic (1-2 sentence) definition. Any help appreciated

Simple explanation:

There are B-cells in the body for all types of antigens. We only have a few of each because we don't know which ones we'll need. When an antigen comes in, it finds the B-cell that can bind to it. We now need that B-cell, so it divides and divides and divides, such that we now have a whole lot of that B-cell, so that it can fight off infection.

PS: clonal selection was an Australian discovery. Indeed, even better, it was a Victorian discovery!
PPS: by the way, this is the HSC board. You might like to post on the VCE board next time :)
