The assessment is very fair and final exam questions tend to be recycled.

I thought the assignment where we had to use the lab computers to analyze a DNA sequence or something was pretty stupid/pointless though.
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

Haha really? I thought it was kinda cool...tied in well with the tutes from memory. Plus it was easy marks to secure before the exam

I was going to take GENE20002 instead of PHRM20001 because it looks so easy in comparision. The thing that made me switch to PHRM20001 is that GENE20002 looks so bloody boring :(
BSc (2015), MD1 (2016)
Tutoring in 2016: http://www.tutorfinder.com.au/tutors/detail.php?TutorID=78301
Chuck a PM if interested :)

Available for tutoring on the summer holidays for university subjects or VCe.
Also tutoring for the Melbourne uni MMIs (medical/physiotherapy interviews)

Please don't PM me for lecture slides or recordings. I don't have them anymore.

I just remember being so confused the whole time and witnessing so much cheating.

LOL yeah I remember seeing a lot of collusion too haha

I did both subjects and do agree PHRM20001 was more interesting c.f. GENE20002. But in terms of scoring well with minimal effort, GENE20002 wins hands down IMO

I tend to panic when I hear something was easier than the other. Was PHRM20001 insanely hard or is GENE20002 just a joke in terms of difficulty? (I'm taking PHRM but kinda worried about how difficult it may get!)

If GENE20002 is anything like GENE20001 then you might be able to score highly even if you do slack off, since the assessment itself would be quite easy. (Open-book MSTs on the LMS, recycled exam questions, MCQ exams, no pracs, etc)

Certain other subjects require you to actually appreciate and understand what is presented before they award the mark, such as Principles of Immunology, which has 50% of your total mark based on SAQ/essay questions, where each mark is worth 1% of your total score. I would imagine that scoring full marks on that section in exam conditions to just get the 50% is hard.

But with a subject like GENE20002, churning out an H1 is a lot easier than actually understanding and appreciating the genetics that is, which in my opinion is actually quite hard. Like to extend the knowledge they presented and think more deeply is not an easy thing to do.

I was thinking of doing PHRM20001 and GENE20002 along with HSF BIOM20002, I don't know if this is a wise idea. Instead of doing breadth, i'm thinking of doing GENE20002, because I can't find an interesting breadth. Would the workload be too much?

^I wouldn't think so. GENE20002 has no pracs apparently - there's only 3 lectures and 1 problem solving class a week. And apparently a lot of it was covered in MCB as well.

I was thinking of dropping PHRM20001 and falling back to GENE20002 if PHRM20001 + MIIM20002 + HSF is too much.

PHRM20001 is an incredibly well coordinated subject and definitely not insanely hard!

Those were the subjects I did in my second year and they were more than manageable. The assessment of GENE20002 isn't very taxing and the course can be crammed in a few days if required. I'd defs recommend PHRM20001 as the pharm component of HSF (~10 lectures) is fairly rushed and seems disjointed if you haven't been exposed to the concepts before.

Has anyone done SCIE20001 - Thinking Scientifically? It's taught completely online, not sure if it's hard or not though....

My science history at school

Year 8 - Physics, passed; Chem, failed; Biology, failed

Year 9 - Physics, failed; Chem, failed; Biology, failed

Year 10 - Physics, failed; Chem, failed; Biology, failed

Year 11/12 - never touching science again

I wouldn't mind claiming I did a uni science subject!
