Also, there's the risk of mis-memorising essays. I've actually memorised things for English SACs (where we got the topic beforehand) and this has happened to me. The problem is that in the pressure of the exam room it's extremely likely you'll forget bits of your essay, or your memory might jumble up the order of paragraphs/arguments etc. And because you went to all that effort to write a brilliant essay and memorise it, you'll probably want to regurgitate it no matter what, so what you end up with is an confused piece of writing where the arguments don't flow properly and bits are missing, thus possibly also rendering it incoherent. It happened to me, though not on such a large scale.

And of course there's the problem of having to manipulate your essay to match VCAA's specific requirements. Or even worse, just copying down your essay with no regard for VCAA criteria whatsoever. That's not going to get you ANY marks no matter how brilliant your essay is.
