Traveling to Monash Caulfield

Hey guys,
A good friend of mine wants to know if any of you guys know any good ways to get to Monash Caulfield from South Melbourne (the 1 line terminal by the beach is around where she lives).
So far the best option granted by the Viclink Journey Planner is:
1. Take the one to Flinders
2. get the train to caulfield
This is around a 50 minute journey, which is quite unfavourable.
Is the reality of the situation that without a car it is going to be about a 45-1hour journey to caufield each way from south melbourne?
 :)

There was a discussion a while back about this.  It's here if you want to take a look.  :)
