No. If you understood it you won't forget it. But then again it depends on what you mean by forget? Forgetting refers to the inability to retrieve previously stored material. Implication? The material is stored in your brain...you just can't retrieve it. The stronger your conceptual understanding the easier it is to retrieve. Phenomenon known as elaborative rehearsal :P

tbh, unless you are somewhat gifted at maths, you will inevitably forget the intricacies of what you've learnt. But, you will not forget EVERYTHING.

Possibly, but it will mean that you are able to understand the basic concepts when you go through it in school. This makes life easier because you won't have to put as much focus on methods and can work on other subjects instead.

Yes you will forget things, it is the correct thing to do, I forget things that I've read ahead with, Ahmad does, so does kamil, but the important thing is whether you actually learnt it or simply just read it. If you've learnt the material but forgotten it, then that's perfect, because when you see something that relates to what you've learnt, it will recall it from your memory and you simply just need to glance over your textbooks etc to remember what you've learnt. However if you just simply read it and forgot it, then that's just as bad as not reading ahead in the first place, since you will have to relearn it because you didn't do anything the first time round. There is a HUGE difference between how you forget things ;)

Agreed with TT. If you want to work ahead during the holidays ensure that you are learning the material, not just skim reading it. If you're not gonna do it properly then just have fun - i mean it is suppose to be the holidays!!

Yes you will forget it, but it's definitely worth learning.
If you learn a chapter for the first time it will take about 10 hours to learn.
If you learn a chapter for the second time it will take about 1 hour to learn.
Quite a big difference.
Though as TrueTears said, that only counts if you fully learn the chapter. Skimming over the textbook and glancing at the diagrams on each page might spark your interest, but it isn't going to increase your knowledge much at all.

It depends if you're the type of person who forgets, I did Software Development last year (2010) and haven't touched it at all this year, apart from tutoring friends...etc. but I was still able to do the 2011 exam quite comfortably. But even if you don't remember, like others have said, it will benefit you, provided that you do it properly

The student who studies Methods twice will do better than the student who studies Methods once
The student who studies Methods three times will do better than the student who studies Methods twice
and so on

Just keep studying Methods until the penny drops

And then do some more

I have no problem with your disagreeing with me, but if you want to do Methods AMBITIOUSLY, I not only urge people to heed my advice above, but I also add the following :

* Become thoroughly converstant with the capability of your CAS calculator. The ability to quickly recognise and classify problems which are suitable to a CAS solution (eg Multiple Choice section) saves a lot of time.

* I recommend that people attempt some of the tougher and more obscure practice exams eg, Kilbaha, Itute, as they tend to cover some of the more inaccessible parts of the course.

The objectives of this type of preparation are :

1) The actual VCAA exam will seem to you as a step DOWN in class rather than a step UP
2. You will be able to complete the exam with half an hour to spare, which is important for checking etc

I repeat, the preparation I outlined above will suit AMBITIOUS students only

I will assure you, if I were to repeat methods, it'll be highly unlikely I'll see much of an improvement in my study score, it's cause there are a lot of other issues (careless mistakes is one of them) which aren't solved by doing the course multiple times

This is true for people that's not naturally good at math, like me :D if I keep learning the same thing over and over again - the penny will definite drop
