What’s the tricky part about phone calls?

If I have a question to ask, I feel like the way I say doesn't make sense and then I end up over-explaining, and then it gets even more awkward when there are connection issues. The awkward silence is the worst, especially when the person on the other side of the phone asks you a question and you have no clue how to answer it so you're just standing there like "Umm... hmm... well..." Whenever I have to call a business, I have to plan what I have to say and then think what the person may say so I have a response to that possible question. And Skype interviews are the worst because it's semi-formal but since it's an interview, you kinda have to be a bit formal to leave an impression with someone who you've never physically interacted with.

This also applies to when I'm ordering food because I have to say my order 11278921 in my head and recite the order to the person at the counter (sometimes I end up interrupting their 'Hi how can I help you' which makes it even more awkward) and then I get anxious if I don't have my money with me I get stressed thinking that I'm holding up the line so I either need to have the exact number of money or I don't use my coins and give them a banknote instead.

Talking to people is exhausting :/

My mum gets confused why I hate calls because my mum speaks in broken English :/

They're the worst of both worlds.  You don't get the cues and information you have from seeing someone and their reactions but you also don't get the opportunity to prepare and really deliberately choose your words & phrasing, there's no permanent record so you can't just refer back to it,  it can be hard to hear and interpret people and that causes difficulties,  and ending a phone call is the most awkward conversational end I know of.

It's funny because I read somewhere about how in the 90's phone calls were very normal. Whereas now it's become something MOST unwelcomed especially when it wasn't scheduled ahead of time between correspondents.

I think it's most likely our shift to the interwebs and texting which has made phone calls seem obsolete and even at times, invasive. Which is kinda problematic and a bit sad, because I love talking. Once a convenience and now something of an inconvenience - now, I think that's something worth looking into

I barely use phone calls since texting is just much more efficient.

I called K888 without scheduling just last night!

But as a rule, not really for me.

If I get an unscheduled call, I typically assume it's an emergency, which is an acceptable reason to call.

Unfortunately, about 1/3rd of the time, it's drunk friends calling me to tell a joke then hang up

I call people I value or if there's something urgent.

With text, it just doesn't feel the same as calling at all .. also one can seenzone and drag things out.

People schedule calls?? I didn't know that was a thing. My friends and I just call each other whenever and if we don't want to talk we just hang up or don't answer hahaha
