QTAC has now confirmed this to be a technical error.

Hey!
From what I've heard a lot of students are reporting this issue. Even though it's hard
try not to panic.
First here's a recap of what determines ATAR eligibility:
- Complete an English subject at 3&4 level (e.g. lit, English, EAL...) and earn a C or higher
- Complete (at 3&4 level): 5 general subjects, 4 general + 1 applied or VET at cert III or higher
- Do this within 5 years
There are some extra rules on subject combos you can read about
here but those are things like: "you can't have both methods and essential maths contribute to your ATAR".
You might also find
this helpful.
If you weren't doing the right subjects you should've heard about that well before now so the only thing that leaves is getting not getting a C or higher in your English subjects
So here's a couple of things that might have happened:
1. QTAC doesn't have your subject results from QCAA yet, so they can't see that you've met the eligibility requirements. Or maybe they do have that but just haven't done the calculations yet so it's still showing up as "ATAR ineligible"
2. You didn't get higher than a C in English and it's been leaked early.
I consider 1. to be more likely than 2. and here's a few reasons why:
- It doesn't seem like anyone had ATAR results leaked saying they had an eligible ATAR
- A LOT people are experiencing this issue
- There was a mistake in Vic one year where results were leaked early and when that happened it was leaked equally regardless of achievement level
What I would do in your situation: Reach out to some people who are strong in English and check if they signed up in the same way as you, ticked the same boxes for ATAR release and ask them if they got the email. If they did, that can give you extra confidence.
Hopefully QTAC comes out with a follow up soon to help people calm down but I do think it's likely that this doesn't actually mean you'll be ineligible when you get your results soon. Also, ATARs come out 19th December for QCE students and 18th December for HSC students. Having the 18th in there further suggests you shouldn't be too stressed about this email. If they're assigning ATARs on the 18th then why would they know you are eligible now? And if the 18th was referring to when YOU get your ATAR then we know that's not true.
Best of luck. I'll keep an eye on QTAC social media etc as they are definitely aware this has happened and will hopefully release a statement soon.
