Hey guys! We've been given the requirement to explain the use of dramatic techniques and how it is used to explore ideas in Hamlet. Only issue is that I'm not too sure what dramatic techniques entails so some help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey yattmoani!

Dramatic techniques are the techniques used by the playwright in the construction of their play. Similarly to how a novelist will use language techniques, or a poet will use poetic techniques, you're talking about the techniques specific to theatre.

Examples: soliloquies, costuming, stage directions, lighting directions, monologues, puns, metaphors, motifs, etc. Some of these techniques aren't just found in plays, and can be found in poetry or novels too (like puns, metaphors, similes), but they are "dramatic techniques" when employed in a play like Hamlet :)
