Maomao, you have to teach me how to learn this stuff by yourself. It looks so sexy. But I don't know where to start. I know nothing :(

Hell, my year level couldn't even fill up a year 10 class for it as a semester elective (and subjects run with hardly anyone in them at my school, eg 10 is good), let alone vce level

I've got a Philosophy text that I used when I did Philosophy 1&2 a few years back. You can borrow it if you like.

And Mao: I liked Philosophy of Science actually. Helps provide a justification for the science subjects that I'm studying now.

Can I go and steal it right now? I know where you live...
philosophy texts are bunch of crap :P [the real texts are those by actual philosophers, which no one understands unless you are superman]
they are a lot funner if someone TEACHES you them. talking is the greatest pleasure [and pain] of a philosopher :P

Our 3/4 students had to learn directly from the materials (or at least excerpts of them)
"this post is more confusing than actual chemistry.... =S" - Mao

Mao, you contradict yourself. Brendan in "debate mode" does not use such analytical logical techniques.

I would suggest doing logic. I suspect it will help clarify the way you make arguments, including your thought process. Any subject that offers hope in doing this is a good idea. Philosophy will probably not do that, and will probably further your confusion by unnecessarily classifying groups of ideas and values into categories with jargon.

To use Brendan as an example again, he rarely states a particular denomination of values, yet his thought process seems to be very clear. I would prefer to study logic rather than a categorisation of beliefs.

I've been doing philosophy this semester and I don't think I could recommend a specific type. Everyone seems to prefer different types of philosophy. I think you should just wiki browse until  you choose what seems more interesting.

Yeh I thought *you* would say that  ;)     Have you done any Logic units at uni?

I'm not yet sure I'll do any, but it's highly unlikely I'll do more than one philosophy subject. oh well I'll try and be thourough in researching my choices for next sem
