Are my VCE subject choices adequate for law?

Hello,

As I am looking at studying law when I finish school, I was wondering if my current subject choices are what I need. I also have a strong interest in and am good at maths. I have chosen:
English or Literature (haven't decided yet)
Chemistry
Methods
Specialists
Legal studies
History: revolutions

Let me know what you think.

Thank you

Definitely think your subject list will help you get that ATAR requirement in the end. Are subjects like Specialist and Methods necessary for something like law? That's questionable. But definitely good for problem solving, that's a given!

P.S - I really like how both of your threads so far have been carefully posted in the correct section. It is very refreshing to see that you (as a new member) understand this, so thank you :)

Definitely looks like a solid mix to me. :)

I mean, Legal makes a lot of sense if you want to continue with Law. If you have a strong interest in and are good at maths subjects, Methods and Spesh pick themselves. I guess that leaves Chem, Revs and either English/Lit.

Are you considering any other subjects? Why those three? :) But yeah, looks like a great mix to me!

Hello. Well I was considering Methods as it is a prerequisite into many other degrees, so that leaves an option open if I don't get into a Law degree, and I was considering Specialist as Maths is a subject that I am really interested in (though not looking to pursue as a career), and I could do with the massive scaling! Thank you for your response :)

Great call, I reckon! Methods definitely leaves some more doors open. :) What other degrees might you be interested in if not Laws?

Well, english is a requirement in VCE, so I have to do one or the other. With chemistry, my parents want me to do a science as it will open more doors if I don't succeed in getting into Law and chem is my strongest science subject (I've also completed some year 11 chem work before), and I heard history gives you a lot of analytical and research skills used in law and Revs is the only one offered at my school.

My science teacher is encouraging me to take physics, but other than that there really are no other subjects that I am looking into.

Thank you for the response!

If I don't get into Law I was considering possibly an arts or commerce, maybe a science or engineering (definitely a double of some of those).

If you're planning on Engineering as a back up, I'd recommend taking up Physics.
VCE: Psych | Eng Lang | LOTE | Methods | Further | Chem
Uni: Bachelor of Science (Hons) - genetics
Current: working (sporadically on AN)

Quite a few people on the forums have been in a similar position. I was in Arts/Law at Monash for a little while myself. Stick around and there will be lots of help available to you! :)

Those subjects are 100% fine for law; but quite frankly, any combination of subjects you enjoy (as long as prerequisites are met) would be fine for law. Simply because what you learn and do in your law units isn't really like anything you do or learn in VCE (at least that's been my experience anyway).
That being said, however, I did find legal studies somewhat helpful for the first few weeks of my introductory law unit - but even then, it isn't a prerequisite.

Ultimately, my biggest recommendation would be that you complete subjects that you enjoy and are good at - as this gives you the best chance to maximise your ATAR and gain entry into your law course :)
