Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone can explain this question and the reasoning behind the answer (it is E on the answers)?

Thanks

A. The r value does not tell you how much of the difference can be explained - you need the r2 value for that.
B. This would require that the r value be positive. It's negative.
C. This would require that the r value be negative. It's positive.
D. This would again mean that the r value is positive, which it's not.
E. This is the only answer left so you can work out that it's the correct answer by elimination. The higher r value something has, the stronger the association is (it doesn't matter if it's a positive or negative value). -.563 is a stronger correlation than .357 so population density has the stronger association of the two options.
