Title: OFFICIAL RESULTS THREAD
Post by: pi on August 04, 2012, 10:14:06 pm
Post your results here!

Any off-topic discussion other than a "congrats" or a "...and you said you would "only" get an A :P" will be removed (ie. Don't post here until Monday XD) :) Feel free to quote your comparisons with your predictions though :) Any bagging of other users, as per forum rules, will not be tolerated, as well as bragging, that's not on.

so depressed, not over the mark but knowing i could have put in more effort during the actual exam and worked faster to finish the paper.
oh well life goes on
we can improve for unit 4!!!

Just wondering, is it still possible  to get an atar of 90 if ur midyears are B-B+?

I don't know what to think of B+. Can someone help me out? I'm achieving high scores for sacs, roughly averaging A-A+. Would these equate to attaining a study score of 40 if I achieve A+ in the end of year exam?

(More importantly where do I stand with a B+...i'm generally any other student who seeks to do really well)
:S

Thanks in advance xx

We had a glance over the grade distributions at Period 5 today (for some reason I can't find it at home), but the A+ cut off was 67.5/75

Don't worry so much about your grades. In the end, your total scores will be netted, which will be one of the factors in determining the study score that you will be designated. You've gotten a high B+ as well, so you shouldn't worry! Best of luck to all for Unit 4! : )

Look, there's little point worrying about it. It *may* be possible to get a 40, but I wouldn't put any expectations on yourself to get it.

Just see what you did badly in prep and move on :)

C is the median
30 is a median study score

you should get 30 if you get all Cs i think

Shouldn't be worried too much about it in my opinion (because it is genuinely a good score, despite what you might think), it's all in the past now - so don't let it eat you up and make you feel down. You have Unit 4 to tackle now.. in my opinion the score that you get means absolutely nothing as long you learnt something.. but a lot of people are too obsessed with the number's game :) which is.. perfectly normal.
Title: Re: OFFICIAL RESULTS THREAD

Got a C. Perfectly expected since I didn't know more then half the course and was averaging 40-50% on the prac exam (I done 3).

What score can I be looking at If I can get a B+-A+ on the end of year exam while getting Rank 1 in SACs? I prefer this unit much more then Unit 3.. so hence why I'm willing to put some effort in.

From what I've heard the difference between a 45-50 isn't alot. Could anyone please give some input on what score I'd need for the next exam for a 47? It would be very appreciated. Thank you!

GOOD ON YOU MAN! I would say you're well in league for a 50 - I know of a dude who got 72.5/75 in the midyear and 81/82 in the endofyear in 2010 (where the midyear A+ cut was almost 90%) and ended up with a 50.

The September date is for inspection of your exam scripts: "Applications for Inspection of June Examination Scripts close on Friday 21 September 2012."

I was really excited cos I got an A+ but now i'm a bit disappointed cos I only just got the cutoff mark. I kind of regret looking at it :(

Um quit bitching you got an A+! Get some self esteem and be proud of yourself for doing so well! So many people would have studied hard and got a C+, get some perspective amigo: you're going to get over 40. This is stupid.

Anyone able to estimate what a 70/75 could yield as a study score if repeated?

44-47? Can't really tell. This exam was easy, but the next one could be easy or hard.

That's really not fair at all. Different people have very different expectations and obviously will be disappointed about different results. So long as you're not being ostentatiously remorseful, there's nothing wrong with expressing it and HBP was definitely not untactful. To call this stupid is stupid. Not everyone is happy with simply 'get[ting] over 40', including myself. Nothing wrong with shooting for the stars and falling short and being disappointed about it, it gives you something to work towards, and it certainly doesn't mean she has no 'self-esteem'. Just because other people worked hard and got a C+, it doesn't mean those who have higher expectations for themselves should feign satisfaction.

Apologies if I sound harsh or rude but I'm so sick of that attitude (not referring directly to you, I don't think you even meant it like I've perceived it), especially at school.

Thats so true. Everyone has different expectations. I feel a bit sad about my mid year exams too but just dont wanna express it too much because I still have chances in the end-of-year exams

Guys let's cool it down a little. Derp, you have a point - but say it more constructively :P and Joseph - consider derp's point. People are allowed to have expectations of themselves and be disappointed when they don't get what they hope for.

I got my statement of marks and there's some marks I lost but I'm not sure why......what's the process if you want to appeal? Should I wait until after the examiner's report or now? Do I inspect the script first?

I agree with you guys, I didn't mean it in a malicious way, I meant to try and show her that she should be proud of herself for her achievements and try to make her feel better!

Yes she was disappointed but there is so much that is good in her mark that I feel she should be happy. It's an A+! The best possible grade! I don't want her to feign satisfaction at all, I want her to feel truly satisfied as she has achieved something so great. Do you not see that it is upsetting that someone can do so well yet still feel disappointed? How is this a good thing? Aim high but call a spade a spade, you still did awesome. It sucks that she can't be happy for herself.

This is life, we can't all be perfect, so there's no point sulking about it when you came so close.

I get your sentiment. Like I said, I wasn't just replying to you, just to that stream of thinking in general. I don't think it's upsetting though - some people will feel that an A+ is well within their capabilities and that if they put in the work, they can easily get a really high one. Hence you might be disappointed if you don't. Like Thushan said, anyone would acknowledge that they got the highest grade (which I'm sure HBP did) but some are still inclined to think they did better, whilst others might be overjoyed. Remember also that in terms of your study score there difference between a 70 and a 71 is the same as the difference between a 60 and a 61, so the actual mark can be very important, especially to those who aimed to get upwards of 72 or 73.

there are so many people who study extremely hard yet only achieve C's and C+'s. So be happy with what you have instead of whining that you "only just got an A+"....oh poor you. you're going to get nowhere in life on "the cutoff mark" for an A+!!! So many people on here complain over getting A's and A+'s. GET OVER IT GUYS!!! YOU DID YOUR BEST AND THAT'S ALL ANYONE CAN ASK FOR!!! So if you did exceptionally well, good on you! No need to find something to complain over though.

On another note, congratulations on the A+

Guys honestly, good job. I would kill for that A+, so be extremely happy and treat yourself. Yea, you may not have received what you have wanted but think: there are people out there that worked just as hard as you but still received a lower letter grade (most likely due to silly errors). So, I don't mean to be rude but please be happy for yourself and stop complaining. You did an amazing job. Atleast you have a chance at 40+, that is still something.
Thankyou

a lot of people are in that situation
then they come onto atarnotes and see people putting themselves down when they got an A+!!!
what kind of message is that sending?
it's meant to be supportive but if people are putting themselves down we gotta think about what that is doing to other people!
it makes people who are already feeling shit about their marks feel 1000 times worse, when in reality, if you did your best you should be proud!!!

Don't worry about what other people think.
A B+ is still absolutely amazing
You and pretty much everyone else should be really happy.
Yeah if you're someone who put no effort in, didn't study, just rocked up on the day and did they exam - then you should be upset [even though you really have no reason to be because you'd deserve it] because you could have achieved so much more if you had tried.
But if you did put in the work, be proud of what you have done, whether you got a D or an A :)
Remember we still have end of years!
So at least we know how we're going and what is/isn't working so we have a second chance whereas people without midyears don't have that advantage.
BE HAPPY EVERYONE :D :D :D

Try to do only a few trials a week for now. They hold more value the closer you get to exam time, when you can do a couple a day or whatever.

I got A+ in Chem as my result but got my SOM and got 67.5, so the lowest mark possible for A+, If i can get a mid range A+ (equivalent of maybe 71 on the mid year) what would my study score be? Is it possible to get a RAW 42/43 with a mid A+ for end of year? My SAC's aren't amazing but in a very strong cohort so should still be A+ SAC's.

Wrong thread but I also got A+ for physics, 85/90, I was really hoping for a 50 and put lots of effort in but know that's not achievable anymore, if i go really well end of year either full mark or drop 1 maybe 2 marks is it possible to get a RAW 47? My SAC's should be 200/200 or close to it unless my exam scales them down.

Cheers

To my knowledge your goals are very much achievable. I would have said you would be on track for a 42-44 ( depending on your RANK in sacs)

Definately possible for physics.

What sort of raw study score range is plausible for a 71/75 (142/150)?

Obviously depending on exam 2 mark, be it the same or higher...
