Any surprises in relation to study scores? I know for one that there were a surprise on mine lol

			-
OMG yes - how the hell did i get 42 in legal with an A on the exam. Getting a SoM to find out.
Also surprised i didn't get an A+ on the exam - kinda dissapointed considering the amount of work I did and lost 2 marks in SACs for the whole year.
Which one were you surprised about?

			-
Definitely legal studies. I had no revision book, did one practice exam where I dot pointed and didn't see my teachers in the 4 weeks before the exam. Pulled a 41 lol, was so happy considering I was rank 2, and rank 1 got 38

Health and Human. Teacher is a VCAA examiner and said she expected me to get 35 - 45 somewhere. When I got my score back and saw the unscaled version under 30, i was shocked to say the least.

Shit thats bad dude, she has really bad judgement. I understand giving your students encouragement and wanting them to do well but its also kinda bad if you get their hopes up.
I wouldbe bloody pissed if that happended to me.

Oh well, it is all over now. Time to look ahead and hope for the best in getting into my course. :-)

I was pretty surprised with both Biology and Chinese.
I got As in my Bio SACs for Unit 4, and only managed to get 1.5 marks above the A+ mark for the mid-year exam. I was expecting a 41-42 at most. I didn't really put much effort into the subject as I did for my others...the whole year, I pretty much would just only listen to podcasts and do a few NEAP questions and that was it.
Last year in Chinese, my teacher expected me to get > 42, but I ended up with a 38. For some reason, my A+ sacs scaled down to an A even with an A+ in the exam. What I found weird was that some girl in my class got A in the exam but got to keep her A+ SACs, so we got the same score.

Yeah legal was weird.. dropped at least 4 marks per SAC so was expecting a 35 if not lower and got a 44.. huh?

Yeah kinda upset but ended up with a much higher ATAR than expected so who cares now  :)
Congrats on your score mate  :D

Cheers :) Congrats on your ATAR

Now regretting doing HHD and Chemistry lol. Maybe should of chose different subjects.

			-
Theatre studies, but for all the wrong reasons  >:(

			-
				Probably English and Business.
Business - Dropped 5 marks throughout the year, ranked 3rd, expected 42-45 and a mid-high A+ on the exam, finished up with a 40 and an A on the exam (which I will base on the fact that my handwriting was atrocious).
English - Went in hoping for a 40, felt that my exam was extremely poor, expected a low A and most likely B+ exam - ended up with an A+ and a 42 SS; very surprised when I had predicted a 35-36 following that exam!

			-
Literature for sure. I was expecting a 34-39 at max, seeing as I had completely stuffed up the exam, or at least in my mind I did. Ended up getting a 48.
Damn, I have bad judgement. Psych myself out for no reason. -.-

Speaking of Psych... I thought for sure I'd got a better score than I got on the mid-year, but instead I got an A.  :P But apart from that, no major surprises really.

			-
My entire study score lol 5 points higher then expected (in 90s)
Also my lowest sac was my highest score (rankings ftw)
And my highest sacs were my lower scores haha

Psych - 95% SACs, rank 3/120, B+ mid year (finished 20 minutes early, was certain of an A+) - only just finished end of year in time, got an A - SS of 37; disappointing to say the least.

			-
				English - A+, A+, A+ with 100% SACs U3 and 4, and came out with a 43 - would've hoped for higher but still happy!
Lit - only got an A on the exam and managed a 41. Pretty chuffed.

			-
Expected 45ish for ESL, my SACs weren't the best like rank 7th and it wasn't my best subject, didn't feel good after the exam and thought I completely stuffed LA. Ended up with 50 which surprised me.
Expected at least 45 for Chemistry which was my best subject and ended up with a disappointing score of 42 which ultimately brought my ATAR down. Must've screwed up exam 2 :(

			-
Definitely English, I panicked after I finished the Lang Analysis section, because I spent 15 mins more than I should of. Lost of all of my fire that I had going into it and never got a flow going for my writing, only finished two body paragraphs for my TR and Context sections and failed to finish the rest of them and a conclusion. So only one of three essays completed, only did about 7 pages of writing, (did the same amount in Lit in 2 hours and overall thought my Lit exam was much better) turned out to have a B+ on the exam and they kept my A+ scores from my SACs, Lit on the otherhand, same exam result but they lowered my SACs to A's and ended up with a 34 in comparison to the 37 I pulled in English.
I'm still kinda disappointed I didn't do as well as I expected in English, but I'm relieved that the score wasn't as bad as predicted and that I got the ATAR that I wanted, so no more worrying or whining from me. :D

			-
English for me as well - I had a mind blank over the context section and then this lead to another mind blank over the text response. There was no flow and I thought I didn't make sense, I expected a 40 at best. Came out with a 46!

			-
I was surprised about Physics. Got an A on the Mid-Years and didn't expect an A+ for Unit 4 - ended up with a 42 haha.
I was also surprised about my English performance, the rest of my cohort did badly on it and since I didn't had the best SAC scores they were all quite low and still ended up with a 43. I thought I'd maybe get a 43 if I get SAC marks as high or higher than my exam mark. Orderd SoM to find out how well I did exactly.
Was very negatively surprised about Methods. Dropped 1 mark through both exams for the VCAA papers 2009-2011 and my score ... lets not talk about it

			-
Surprised about accounting. Got an A in midyear expecting 38-39. Managed a 43 :)

			-
I'd estimate my SAC rank for English in the top 10 somewhere, got a 41 while the rank 1 only got a 40, shocked the hell out of me when i thought my Text Response was atrocious. Japanese was a bit lower than i'd hoped, wanted a 37 or so and got a 33 but that's what i get for playing League of Legends instead of doing exam revision xD

			-
				French (42)
How in the world???

			-
Probably English and Psychology - was slightly disappointed with my 45 in English as I was aiming for 47+. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by Psych, as I was predicting around 42-43 and didn't think a 45 was even possible after the mid-year.

			-
				Definitely English!
I had high SAC scores, hoped for a 33 in ... ended up with a 41

			-
I was very surprised with my Mark for specialist maths. I was expecting about ~30 raw, and although I had A+'s on SACs I knew the exam would be a lot harder. Ended up with B+'s for all 3 GA's and a SS of 35 RAW. Could not, in my wildest dreams, have expected a score that high for Spec math! The other two highest marks in that subject were both 29, and both of these guys were 'naturally' smarter than me. That being said I definitely put a huge amount more effort in than them, so I'm very happy my hard work paid off :)
Overall I was also surprised with my ATAR, I new I could get away with about 85 minimum because of SEAS, and this was what I was expecting. So when I saw 91.45 I was shocked!! :) Methods I would have been disappointed with if I hadn't got the ATAR I got. I was ultimately hoping for something more like 37 to 40 RAW, but I really stuffed up exam 1 only got B+, but luckily I saved myself and got an A on exam 2. However, SS and ATAR scores mean nothing once you have met the pre req's for the course you want :)

When VCAA calculates study scores, are they calculated by hand or using a computer? I'm just curious if they ever make mistakes.

			-
It is  highly likely that that they calculate using some sort of computer program simply due to reasons of practicality and consistency. Obviously if they did do them by hand then it would probably take them like 2 years to compile all those study scores.
Like all things, programs can also make mistakes(debatable?) though it's probably more likely that vcaa and vtac people have inserted the wrong number into the program which is usually where the mistake lie.

			-
I was more disappointed to say the least. I recieved a raw study score of 37 for literature and estimated I would have at least attained a raw score of 40. There were two classes, one at my campus comprised with 12 year eleven students only and the other campus comprised of a class of 29, mixed with year eleven and twelve students. I had been excelling in literature all year, ranking first in my class and most likely ranking in the top 5 across both campuses. As a collective my class was quite weak.  However, after looking at the high achievers list, I found no students from either campus had recieved a raw score of above 40. So, that leads me to believe no one got an A+ on the exam (I wish I did). I'm crushed about the fact my cohort was weak (not their fault) and the fact I couldn't get an A+ on the exam, which most likely would have raised my raw, given I was ranked first.
Hey! But I will say one thing, I thought I would have at least recieved a B+ on my exam. Was quite shocked and pleased with that A nonetheless.

English for defs! Thought I stuffed up LA and did okay on text response and context. Was expecting 41 max, ended up with 47 :D

exact same situation, but with bio! HA! i honestly thought i had gotten a really low A+ mid year, but somehow i got higher than my dream result of 43 :D

Was a little off the mark with my expectations in most things, but two in particular - English and VET Interactive Digital Media - surprised me. For English, I averaged 98% for the SACs and was first in a cohort of ~180, then got a A+ for the exam - I was hoping for a 45 or above, but ended up with a 41. Not terrible by any means, but not what I was hoping for. On the other hand, I spent most of the year thinking that VET IDM would be my worst subject, I did no study for it whatsoever except for the 2011 exam, and yet ended up with a 49. Well, no complaints, I guess.  ;D

I think that's about right. If you were rank 1 you may have gotten a 44-45, but being rank 2 you were subject to moderation, which seems to have occurred in this case. The other two possibilities are that the state found the exam easier this year or that you did worse on exam 2 (both are genuine possibilities). In my opinion, it's still worth ordering a statement of marks to determine what exactly happened.

			-
Surprised about psyc.,.like refreshed the page twice to check if it was right, was  expecting a 40
Biol ..kinda , was expecting a 35  :-[

			-
Surprised about my ATAR. Lost motivation during the year and copied worked solutions for entire 2nd semester, while doing some light reading as only way of studying. Also started prac exams a week before actual exams and got burn out really badly. SOMEHOW pulled out a 90 when I was expecting 80. Obviously am happy about that, but not proud of my work ethic at all.

			-
i was drunk with happiness! i got 10 above my genuine expectation, and 6 above my hopeful! YAY! i was completely sure that i had gotten a 41 (thought i misread it), until i got a call from school telling me otherwise :D best subject ever! totally pick it guys! ull get generously rewarded if you work hard
Edit: crap sorry, i didnt realise i had already posted in this thread. never mind me ... urrghh awkward

			-
In all honesty I was pretty happy with my Psych score. Especially since after getting a C+ mid year-very disapointed, still managed to pull a 32 with B+ B+ for the other GA'S. :D    I was also suprised with my score for further haha- my horrible sac marks- and still pulled a 27.......

			-
I was surprised, sad but somehow happy about my biol ss. I got A for mid year exam and seriously thought that I had gotten at least mid A+ for end of year, sadly I did end up with B+..but am still confused as I'm honestly sure that I lost an absolute max of 9 marks on the exam :p. Despite this lol, I was so happy when I saw my ss of 38..which basically was my aim. I was also surprised with physics, got c+ for mid year and ended with an a+ end of year. Also, seriously thought that I will get B on english exam, however I did end up with an A :) Considering that I do go to quite a low-socio economic school where only 3 students in my classes gave a damn about school...I'm very happy with my results.

OVER THE MOON/SHOCKED AT MY ENGLISH SCORE
my school marks english extrememly harshly as i found out
i had 68/100 for semester1sacs
and 29/100 for semester2sacs
as i have an English tutor i know i was marked very harshly and i knew i had to put all my effort into the exam.
my sacs for semester 1 ended up being an A, and semester 2 a C, and with a B on the exam i got 30
i actually cant believe it as i had convinced myself i was going to get lower than a 25 i had started looking at uni courses with low english requirements.
AND NOW I DONT HAVE TO WORRY!!!!!
but seriously how does a 68 turn into an A
                                          29 turn into a C

I was surprised and somewhat phased by what happened with Further:
S.A.C.s: Rank 2, 97/100 for S.A.C.s.
Exam 1 - 37/40.
Exam 2 - 57/60 or 56/40 (this is the only mark I'm not 100% sure of, but it is around there).
Expectation: 45-47 SS.
Reality: 42 SS with A+, A+, A+ for all three graded assessments.
Still confused, is there a chance someone has made a mistake with my results and or the marking of my paper?
yeah i do think your ss is weird
i got 40 with A+,A,A+

Pretty much not surprised about anything. Everything I got I thought I would. Except I was going into German without dropping a mark and having done two exchanges I was really hoping for up in the 47-50 range raw.  Came out of the exam and made so many dumb mistakes and was like just begging for a 40 and I was really annoyed because my mistakes were just reading questions wrong and interpretation.  So, when I read I had a 45, I was so happy, but all I could think was what I could have got.  Thought I would be lucky to get a 95 and got 97. Now, I wish I had done another  year 12 in 2011, like health or something to get higher ahah.

English- Forgetting to analyse one of the pictures and squeezing in the second image somewhere near the end of my analysis. Didn't write conclusion for context and felt like my paragraphs were all over the place (lame story as well).
SOMEHOW pulled an A out of nowhere. My SACs then proceeded to drag SS down to 23.

lol, for LA I completly forgot to analyse the visuals :p I only realised that after I walked out but well my SACs dragged my score down to 'only' 43

			-
I was also very shocked in legal...
Ranked 3rd in SACS at 96. I burnt out a couple of days before the exam and then didn't even finish the paper. I spent weeks preparing myself for a 35-38 and then somehow pulled a 49- beat the 1st and 2nd ranking kids too! Very happy  ;D

			-
I put alot of effort into economics but ended with a Study score of 33 fml.
I only got a B in the exam when I thought I deserved an A. Worst of all, I was ranked 1st and 2nd in sac rankings. 95/100 and 96/100 in unit 3 and unit4. Both got scaled down to a B+ and A. I expected to get between 38-43. I go to a gov't school where we don't have a proper and experienced in economics

2011 - English. 1/130-odd in SACs, my indicative grade was 97 or 98, and I lost no marks at all for C&P. Came out of the exam feeling I'd done my best - B+ on the exam, 5/10 on C&P, which was my strongest area throughout the year. Came out with a 39 instead of the 43+ I was sure I'd achieved.
2012 - all my classes. Enviro Science I had an indicative score of 98, 1/15 for SACs, and got A+ on both exams, along with two other people in my class. It turned out that my cohort had a lump of awful achievers at the bottom on exam 2 and high achievers at the top, so somehow the top three in the class got pulled down slightly. I thought that the person with the highest SAC marks wasn't subject to moderation, but I was expecting a 43-48 for sure with the marks I got. Still, 42 was fine.
Chemistry, all my practice exams were A/A+ and I didn't mark lightly. SACs were very high A, I think 7/46 in the school. Had a nervous breakdown in the first exam and got a B, but I studied hard for Exam 2 and then screwed up two large questions that were also in my area of strength due to being unable to interpret properly. Came out feeling fairly calm and expecting an A, with the 35 I'd been aiming for, ended up with B A B+ and 33.
Methods, I was ecstatic to get that A+ on the second exam, and I definitely put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this subject, but my first SAC mark was so bad it pulled my 89 average down to 82, and I lost two marks on Exam 1 (realised a day after I walked out I'd lost the A+) for something really simple, and while I definitely exceeded the 35 I was aiming for, the amount of preparation and intense study I did for the Metods exams felt like it didn't pay off quite enough overall. I feel like none of scores in 2012 were indicative of my internal grades (except Methods) at all, and I feel like I wasted a lot of time and effort to get the scores I did.
Overall ATAR I was happy about, though, it got me into my dream course, so I'm all set for a fresh start in a sensible system! :D
...it feels good to get that rant out. Really good.
