Title: Proving people wrong
Post by: abcdqdxD on January 07, 2013, 09:29:06 pm
So just then, a friend's bf said this: "you won't get into bcom at melb, from the person doing bcom at melb". On top of that, he doesn't even know me, which made me quite angry.
So how do you guys deal with the nay-sayers? Share your past experiences! :)

How do I deal with naysayers? I be more successful than them and then smile to myself :).

1-"success" is not defined by ATAR score 2-what makes you think you can't beat him? 3-You don't need to 'deal' with him. You said he didn't know you, therefore it wasn't personal, therfore just ignore him. :)

Yeah this. That could've been misleading. Success is really just a state of mind, if you achieve what you want to achieve you're successful. You could make your goal shutting the naysayers up. Then, when you get into your course, you're doubly successful lols~

There is more to Commerce than getting into a particular course. It sounds like he'd be the type to squander his own chances of success in Business in the future. Want to prove him wrong? Be an all-rounder, not just the jerk who seems to be in the right degree.

You did achieve a 44 in accounting, so that should count for something. I remember asking my methods teacher what kind of raw study score I could get, since I was aiming for 40, they said maybe 34 or 35. In the end I managed a 39, I know that's 1 below 40, but I did get a better mark than 34. Have confidence in yourself and you'll achieve your goals.

The only person who is qualified to tell what you are or are not capable of is yourself.

so cheat on him with a girl and tell him that he was only attracted in the first place because that guy was so girly, to lower his self-esteem

What a dick srs, doubting a person who got a 44 in accounting :/. The way to prove people wrong is to stick to your goals and make them come true really and stay strong throughout your time in VCE :)

I don't get the point of his insult. You got 99.60, you're obviously in the course. He's just being a douche about it.

Haven't got it, just an aim :P

Last year, guaranteed entry into commerce was a 95.45 ATAR score. Considering you got a 44 in accounting and you're aiming for a 99.60 ATAR score, you'll easily make it! Just work hard and make it your goal to prove this guy wrong.
And if you fail at first, there are always alternative pathways to getting there. Don't let naysayers tell you that you can't do something, because with enough time and effort, you can get into literally any course you want. Good luck!

Haha sorry for the confusion.
I'm in Year 12 this year and 99.60 is just an aim :P

The way I see it, if you're aim is 99.60 you should be able to get >95. There are always going to be people that cut you down so they feel better. I think it's a bit of an issue that it's your friends bf more than him saying you can't get it.
Going all 'feelings' style: Just believe in your own ability. Insults like these shouldn't bother you if you do.

43 in English? Ha!
Kidding Kidding :P
I've had plenty of people ridicule my aims. At first, I kept thinking "wow, maybe I am being optimistic" but since joining here and meeting the all mighty Brendan.. really, I've never looked back. I avoided spesh for this very reason, but got back straight into it after having a few words with fellow ANers..
I don't mind criticism as long as it's reasoned and constructive. If their aim and purpose is to put me down, I simply don't care. I tell them that it's none of their business and that it's my problem not theirs, while also politely educating them that if they're indeed better, my rank should not affect (a or e? :P) them adversely.
