Hey all :D
I thought there would be a thread already, but there isn't so ill just start one then. Are any AN-ers coming tomorrow? I actually haven't met anyone I didn't already know on AN, so pretty keen to meet some :D
Also, anyone going to the morning tea thingy for KLDer's and UMEPer's? There's going to be free food if you haven't decided yet HAHA
-
ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!
Shall see you there Alwin :D
Mind you there better be good food haha!
-
I'll be around, probably in the IT or engineering departments.
I'm determined to win one of those stress balls from the beer goggles thing, I failed last year.
-
I'll be there! :D
There's no sacs next week that are stopping me this time!
-
I might go and snaffle up all the freebies, even though I'm already a student at UoM :D

Classic Levi. What about those rolls :P?
-
I have a bajillion things to do so I can't come :(
I went last year anyway and the other week for a history lecture so I have a pretty clear idea of what it's like.
-
Ill be there
Mainly gonna be walking around getting as many freebies as possible.
I also want to go the actuarial sessions there and the Umep one.
But I also have a sac on Monday :/

Same, I've got a chem SAC on Monday but going and checking out Melb Uni will be fun

I wouldn't count on many freebies, they've been stingy over the past couple of years. The best freebie year was back in '09 or something where I managed to grab 8 or so bottles of vitamin water (lol)
O week is the best week for freebies
-
Is it worth going and terrorising the hopeful future students anyway?

this made me sad
But never hurts to try
The best freebies in my opinion are at flinders st
Grain waves x 23
Lipton ice tea x 13

4 yr SACS next week.
But I'm still going :P
UoM open day > yr 11 sacs
-
Wondered why no one was there today..... oppsies.. :P
Didn't go just for that though.. so lucky :P
-
Just wondering if any AN-ers are helping out? :)
-
I will be attending, looking forward to tomorrow and all of the lectures (I hope there are some).
I am particularly looking forward to visiting the various faculties and having a chat with current students and lecturers or whoever is there.
-
My contribution to open day will be not attending to demonstrate what real uni life is like - blood sweat and tears all Sunday long.
Have funnn everyone.

I'll also not be attending to demonstrate the Arts student lifestyle of lolling around all day reading and watching movies and contemplating my meagre existence.

I do want those UoM varsity jackets though...
-

Hahah funniest spelling mistake ever!! If you want a qualification that's suited towards a particular job, go to tafe not monash! Otherwise, go to Melb.

Yeah it was through a volunteer thing, you should do it next year!
-
Melbourne Uni was crazy, people were everywhere! Still, was able to get some good information from some cool people and of course, the freebies.
-
I missed out on seeing the uni pandas :'(
Keeping on top of work = fun
-
the melbourne uni people werent as helpful/informative as their monash counterparts. plenty of times id ask questions and theyd just look at the booklet and if you ask something not on the booklet they dont answer the question! they mainly just helped with basic stuff you could find on the site, they didnt tell me what type of topics you do in third year mathematical physics apart from the subject names which they got out of the booklet. but the law school looks awesome
and the commerce people were more helpful than the other faculties
-
so impressed by everything, loved the commerce building so much!
-
Sometimes I wish I was taking commerce or law subjects just so I could have a reason to be in their fantastic buildings :(

But...the chemistry building is pretty nice ;D
-
Was a pretty good experience at UoM. Got good info on the sciences at UoM though info for Kwong Lee Dow was a bit sketchy ._.
Buildings look pretty nice and freebies were better than Monash imo (E.g Cans of Red Bull, beach ball, toothpaste etc.)

You can find the information you'd like about mathematical physics here: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/!R01-AA-MAJ%2B1020 .
To be fair to the people who spoke to you, if they carried all the information they needed to answer those questions, their arms would have dropped in five minutes. There are a hell of a lot of subjects and a hell of a lot of different areas and unfortunately, unless you speak to a mathematical physicist, they're probably not going to be able to answer those specifics. Just a bit of luck sometimes :)

Probably. Serious props to you if you understand what they're talking about anything third year hahah. I love the descriptions in the maths subjects, they make everything seem really basic. Little do we know...

OMG I CANT BELIEVE HOW MUCH LIKE HOGWARTS A SECTION OF THE CAMPUS IS!! MY FRIEND AND I WERE LITERALLY DYING THE WHOLE TIME, AND TRYING TO VISUALISE SCENES FROM HP TAKING PLACE IN THAT COURTYARD AREA! If anything, that's drawn me a step closer to Melbourne Uni lol :P
-

lol you current year 12's are hilarious :P
meanwhile, I usually rush to get to my lectures to avoid being late and rush to get home, not taking in any of the scenery whatsoever.
-
What?! Where were the beachballs?
I have no idea where in UoM specifically but 'UniLodge' were giving out them before they ran out of gas (to blow up the beachballs) so everyone just grabbed two each and left (like me haha). It was near where they were handing out cans of Red Bull as well as where they were handing out t-shirts, frisbees and earphones too :O

I dunno what's worse than dying, but you'd do it if you visited Ormond's dining hall...

WAT
Someone has brought their golden retriever to uni today and is playing with it on South Lawn. I openly cried.
