Hey just wondering when everyone elses is?
I got mine today, i'm at 1.45 on the 15th of Oct, my other two friends are both on at 2.05 on the 15th of October too :) lol
Aimee :)
-
Mines apparently on the 23rd October. Not sure what time though.
EDIT: 3:40 p.m., 23rd October.
-
lucky you dejan, you've got an extra 8 days on me haha. lol
-
I was just thinking that. Then again, last year my school had it a day before the English exam :P I think it's unfair how some people have less time than others. I mean 1-2 weeks is a pretty long time in terms of study.
-
yeah thats what i reckon. lol oh well i better get a move on haha

more like its unfair how natives can participate.

^^I'm a fence-sitter on this one. Yes, it's unfair how natives are allowed to do Jap SL. But then again, not all of them speak Japanese at home. So how do you differentiate those who do and those who don't speak it at home??

You don't, just push them allll into a separate stream =] Like Extension Japanese at Monash Uni doesn't allow people with a Japanese parent to do extension Japanese, or those who have stayed in Japan two years or longer.
-
ppls feeling confident about Orals?
-
just hope you don't get two native examiners.
-
what's the difference between having native/non-native examiners?
-
what's the difference between having native/non-native examiners?
well a non-native examiner would not know all the vocabulary you use, and so they will butt in and ask you.. 商品ってどいう意味ですか. which will require you to explain to that examiner what a 'product' is. When I had my orals, I had two natives, and so not one of them asked me to define a key word or anything, that makes it look like I only memorized my script without understanding any of the details.
-
oh ok, thanks for that. I'd originally thought they'd ask you anyway just to make sure you knew what you were on about, but it doesn't seem like that according to you! Did you get many questions that weren't entirely from your script then, or did you just go from start to finish without a hitch? Unlikely, but just curious as to what they did ask you
-
My topic was vending machines and the points I wanted to talk about included, The types of vending machines, the good and bad points and the up and coming age verification vending machines.
They didn't ask me one question about the age verification machines, instead they asked me how do vending machines make food hot/warm, how much electricity does a vending machine use and the amount of vending machines in Japan.. just to name a few.

hehe mines on the 26th of October 3:04 ..i think
26th was either my jap or my frds chinese lols
but in terms of native japanese doing sl, its only if they grew up here for a certain period
like how ABC all do csl lols
and natives examiners are good!! you can use shortened terms, バスケ instead of バスケットボール and 数A instead of 数学A
-
I think the non-natives get easily intimidated.
If you speak with confidence and do most of the talking, it will basically be a conversation with the native japanese person.
For your Oral, did you have to memorise stuff? or were you able to just research a bit and basically wing it? I was curious as to whether the pr0 people have to rely on memorisation at all or just rely on leet jap talking skills to get them through. I intend to memorise huge chunks of text and regurgitate based on the question, rephrasing bits if really necessary.

lol man he has JLPT level 2 and also lived in Japan for a year, I don't know Khoa, would you wing a year 12 exam?!!!!!

I'm aware of his JLPT2 and living in Japan for a year. Obviously I wouldn't wing an exam, but I was just wondering if he did, just relying on his leet skillz instead of having to memorise >_> I have to rely on memorisation, but I wanted to know whether those with the super high scores (i.e. airline) use memorisation as well, or just do it "on the spot" kinda thing.

That's true, a lot of people do it. I recommend you do it so you can fit in more content :)

Any recommendations on how much you should say before you let them ask you a question? I'm referring to the discussion section here. 2-3 sentences then pause or a whole paragraph or what?
Oh, in regards to the whole shortening thing... I don't see any problem in saying 自販機 (じはんき) instead of 自動販売機 (じどうはんばいき) from time to time. As long as you explain that it is a shortened form in your intro. Damattore yours was on 自動販売機, so what do you think? What did you do?
-
uh you could be like これから自販機と呼びます。Or something, I said the full thing to waste time!
-
Ahhk. I was intending on just saying in my intro somewhere 自販機は自動販売機のりゃくです。
Then again, I like the sound of this time wasting thing :P
-
With the orals, i know someone asked before but i was wondering too... when we get in there for our discussion after the converstaion part is done, do we do our one minute intro then they ask us questions ro do we do our intro then keep speaking to start the discussion or what....? lol
-
after your intro, they will ask you a question or they'll be like <topic> について話してください。
-
Speaking exam is closing in D: how's everyone going?
But in all honesty, I'd have to agree with you in all regards.
General Conversation の内容は前より、いつも違うので、何を言うか100パーセントに予測出来ない。............Detailed study has at least some structure to it.
But overall, it's going pretty good :D Not too long now...So scary!!!
-
Japanese is too hard noooooooooooooooo. どうしよう。
hmm but speaking is worth very little isn't it? I'm more worried about listening >_>
-
Is it just me or did airline's posts somehow magically disappear from this thread >_>
-
Who now??
So, now long now!!! How's everybody feeling?
-
I'm on the 23rd so still a bit of time I guess
ファックファックファック。
-
Same here, mine's on the 23rd. Still...That's only 3 weeks away :-\
-
hmm I have to force my teacher to practice with me >_> Whenever we practice as groups we just talk about very random things...
I cbs writing anything for General Convo, it seems limitless. Hopefully the Examiner will be nice and ask me nice questions.
-
Yeah, agreed. f you write a lot down, You run the risk of being too restricted with what to say and end up trying to remember what was on page 12 on the 10th line or whatever...instead of actually answering the question spontaneously. That's what I've found at least. Of course, that's not to say you shouldn't have some sort of general idea on what you want to say :P
-
23rd? you guys are lucky.. maybe you'll see each other there too! mine's 1 week and sleep away, so しんぱいしています! i've written some stuff down, because i'd rather try (hope!) to have some direction in the conversation by predicting what they might ask if when i say something. hopefully they'll stick to broad topics like family, school, etc. i've heard of one girl being asked about terrorism, and got really freaked out - our teacher said that if it did happen, it was because she must've mentioned something to get the examiners asking about it. so i guess it does pay to come in with some indication of what you're going to say
-
lolol terrorism. Unlucky. What a mean examiner.
If an examiner really wanted you to fail I guess he could just latch onto tiny points you say and keep going on about difficult topics.
-
Ouch, terrorism! That's quite harsh. Moshi, that's not to say I haven't written anything down for general conversation by the way :)
-
that's good :)
although i get the feeling that no matter how much i try to prepare, it'll never be enough! i just really hope that there'll be no awkward pauses and that i'll be able to understand and answer every question.
-
きっと大丈夫だよ。 Moshiさんなら出来るよ~
Hmm do you think if you don't understand a question, do you think it'd a good idea to just say something you think is related based on a word or two you hear in the question?
-
aww thanks
it's best to ask them to repeat, pray to god that they'll rephrase/say it slower, and if that fails, just answer what you think is right. although i've done that a few times with the language assistant, and sometimes she'll stop, look to the right, purse her lips and go "uh-uh". very demoralising, lol. they'll probably just mark you down for not understanding the question fully, but it's better than having an awkward pause and still getting the question wrong, in my opinion.
although when i first started practicing my DS with the language assistant, she liked asking __どしたらいいですか。i had no idea what it meant, so i guessed she was asking 'what is good' rather than 'how to make it good/better'. so while i understood a tiny part of it (sort of?), i'd still misconstrued the question and gotten it wrong.
or maybe, you could use aizuchi to clarify the question if you're not sure? e.g. take out a key word, and go 'keywordですか'. that might help in making sure you're on the right track
-
do you mean どうしたらいいですか?
lolol I like doing the ○○ですか? gives me time to think as well. Why do Japanese people like to speak so fast...?
I pray I don't get a non-native examiner that butchers words beyond recognition.
-
yeah, sorry i forgot the 'u'
lol i'm usually so wound up while doing it that it barely gives me time at all!
in regards to the assessor, i hope so too. but maybe non-natives speak slower? hope so.
we were doing kikitori in class the other day, and there was this guy on the recording with an absolutely hilarious voice - apparently it's your teacher, lol! one person laughed which set off the rest of the class. our teacher was chuckling too, but was like, it'd be our luck if we ended up with someone like that on exam day, haha. so fingers crossed!
-
lol fujino sensei >_>
hmm must've gottten used to his voice. Usually speaks pretty softly though.
-
bah and I was stuck with two natives. fml
-
Mock speaking tmr nuuuu.
I already failed my written trial >_>
-
lol you guys are lucky, i had to do mine today at 11.55am -.-"
it was ok though, i didn't think i went too bad.
and are some of you guys native?
coz uve used heaps of kanji i dont know,
...k now im worried :S
-

yay another Japanese learner. Wah you've done your oral already?? どうだった?
I don't think kanji typing ability is a reliable indicator of Japanese ability lol *shifty eyes*. 心配しないでください。On a completely irrelevant note the rikaichan add in for firefox gives you automatic readings for kanji
-
when you type in hiragana into the computer, pressing the space bar automatically changes it to kanji, regardless of whether you know what it means - i can't read a fair few of the kanji that people post on here sometimes, so i sometimes have to find the furigana readings just to know what's going on :(
but anyway, how was your oral? were the examiners nice to you? and did they interrupt you a lot and ask you questions that you hadn't directly planned for during 会話 and とくべつけんきゅう?
-
そうですね!
ええと、だいじょうぶだったと思います。
thanks for the tip, that rikaichan add on is awesome!
i wish i could use that for reading sections in exams :S
btw ppl, how do u give good karma?
im still new to all this...
yeh the examiners are quite nice, but y wouldnt they be anyway?
there were 5 rooms, and one of my friends got 2 natives :S
but i dunno if ppl prefer that or not?
umm as far as i can remember they didnt really interrupt me,
but i didnt really give them great amounts of information after each question unless they were really open ended questions.
i think they just prefer that you acknowledge that it's a discussion.
i only had to ask them to repeat a question once,
but i still wasnt sure if i answered it correctly.
but all in all i think there's not much to worry about.
every1 on vce notes seems so clever anyway ^^
-
Rikai-chan is awesome isn't it? You and I can magically read every single Japanese website now =] You need at least 50 posts to give karma
You make Japanese Orals seem like a relaxing conversation, must be pr0. Hmm I wonder how I'll feel on exam day eh >_>
Did they give you a lot of those open ended questions, namely ○○について、どう思いますか Or were there more factual based questions?
-
ah k, kewl.
nah im definetly not pro at it.
but yeh the worst part is waiting to go in, it kills you.
cause u arrive half an hour early,
then you wait downstairs with the other 4 ppl who are doing it at the same time,
then waiting outside the room is the worst part, as you see each person going in.
i was the last coz my examiners were running a little late.
so i was waiting like another few minutes, which felt like ages.
my hearts beating hard just remembering it lol.
anyway yeh i think if you make it more natural instead of being like a robot forking out info,
they'll probs be more interested in you, and not ask you mean questions to throw you off that you mightn't have prepared for.
my examiners didn't really give many 。。について・どう思いますか? questns,
they seemed to ask more questions sparked by what i was saying.
but i dunno, it was all a blur to me lol.
also, i cant guarantee all the other examiners are gonna be the same :S
-
at least it's over right? i can't wait until mine's over, but at the same time, i don't want the day to come so fast!
do you still remember what question they asked you to start off your convo? i'm kind of hoping that it'll be something like "how was your year" or "talk about your family", etc, but i guess there are no guarantees
-
yeh true that.
i think they asked me what i do on weekends first or what i do to relax.
for general they managed to ask me about most main topics like ひまな時・リラックス・週末、しょうらい、しゅみ、家族、日本、学校、アルバイト。
then they just branch out from there, like after saying i like listening to music in my spare time, they asked me about that.
but i think most of us preempt that kind of stuff anyway.
-
Wow congrats on finishing it! I'm glad to hear the examiners weren't mean (now let's just hope none of us get's one who is! :P ) For me, by far the hardest starting point is 学校について話してください。 I just can't seem to initiate a good conversation from that topic. What does that honestly stem to?? You can't mention your school name obviously and is just seems to go nowhere. I'm scared of them asking me that question! :( For the discussion, did they let you talk for long or interrupt you constantly and ask you questions which went deeper into what you've studied? Also, were you asked to define any key words you used? Sorry for the questions haha
As for the kanji on here, don't worry it automatically changes when you type in Jap :P I was in the same situation when I first read posts in Jap on here...freaked out because I thought I didn't know enough.
-

there's plenty of stuff other than your school name :) like location, subjects, club activities, sports, etc

My teacher keeps telling us to not mention anything that could possibly identify our school >_> He tells us to just talk about our old schools instead, in case some examiners have a grudge against MHS (Are we that hated? =[)
-
there are plenty of schools in melbourne! so i hope they don't guess.. though it'd be funny if someone from mhs rocked up in your very distinctive rugby jumpers, haha.
i don't think it's necessarily that you're "hated", but rather that mhs has done fairly well in japanese and that the examiners knowing would perhaps cause them to mark you more harshly because they expect you to be of a higher standard
-

That blows, we gotta go to our orals in school uniform, gonna be screwed if they hate our school :P

lol why what?
-
lol why what?
Well if they have a grudge against our school they could mark us harsher or whatever, I think that's why it's in a neutral venue and you never talk about your school or your name (just your VCAA number)
-

Nah I meant why do you have to come in uniform?
-
What?? That's ridiculous! Teachers don't even go with you to the exams. It's entirely separate to your school and as such your teachers shouldn't tell you that you have to wear uniform. Lol do yourself a favour and don't wear the uniform.
there's plenty of stuff other than your school name :) like location, subjects, club activities, sports, etc
That's true, but I really can't find anything that interesting to talk about which will allow me to engage in an interesting conversation :P I just go to your everyday public school.
-
^Perhaps focus on a single thing about your school that you find interesting and go to that in detail? I find it's sometimes better just to focus on a single thing, rather than saying a lot of general things, I dunno.
-

Our teacher is coming with us, mini bus down there (our class of 7 people are all together) so we have to go to school till 1:30 then our teacher busses us down there so we need uniform at school. I want to take the day off school but I got a Methods SAC on the day that I can't miss or I have to get a doctor's certificate...
-
For the discussion, did they let you talk for long or interrupt you constantly and ask you questions which went deeper into what you've studied? Also, were you asked to define any key words you used? Sorry for the questions haha
no, thank god, i hate defining key words, it makes me feel like explaining it in english.
omg i just remembered something i stuffed up.
my detailed study was kyuushoku(provided lunch)
and they asked me who makes the food,
and i said the people who make kyuushoku make kyuushoku.
lol coz i just realised i never prepared an answer to that,
i think they're just hired cooks/nutritionists or something....damn.
the examiners looked at me and were like he has no idea...haha
umm they didnt interrupt me from what i can remember,
because i just kind of had points to answer for similar questions, not really many detailed answers,
because u only get 7 minutes to talk about it anyway.
so if they looked like they were waiting for more info for a question,
then id just talk about another point related to that question,
but otherwise there was always places where they could ask me another question.
i dont think im making sense, maybe tis late for me?
sorry if im not much help guys who got their orals coming up.
-

get changed an the venue!!
uniforms suck.
u wanna feel comfortable when ur being interviewed.
-
you've been plenty of help! i have 'chunks' memorised for the DS mostly, so i wouldn't be surprised if i get interrupted, although i wouldn't mind if i won't be! btw was there one examiner predominantly asking most of the questions, or were you having to constantly shift eye contact from one to another because both were shooting questions at you?
-
btw, are oral exams marked out of 20? That's a bit crap if that's multiplied up to 100, loss of 1 mark = loss of 5 marks?
-
lol yeh i had to keep looking from one examiner to the other one because they were both asking questions.
i thought i heard mostly non-native examiners ask more questions, but mine were pretty cooperative.
but anyway when they write down stuff, you just look at the one who isn't writing, or maybe if they're both looking at you,
mostly look at the one who asked you the question. i dunno, its up to u.
-

-
hah good old Ukrainian church.
nah, mine was at a place in coburg.
-
did mine today; SO GLAD IT'S OVER!
I had both female non-native and native assessors, who were both really nice, although the native assessor asked questions at a much quicker pace which were noticably harder. The non-native assessor spoke really, really slowly, at a speed which was slow enough for a beginner to understand, which was nice. Bad thing was that they ignored SO many links in both kaiwa and DS, so there was a lot of shuffling of script that I had to do. Only one of the girls in my class that I talked to said that they followed almost every link that she had in DS, so that was lucky!
-
よかったですね。
By "ignored SO many links" does that mean they just asked you random questions out of the blue? D:
-
my structure for DS was causes, problems, solutions, but..
e.g. in DS, I said "aging society has lots of causes", to which the examiner responded, "what are the problems associated with aging society?", so I had to skip one of the reasons which I had prepared, go to problems, go to solutions, then go BACK to causes, so structure turned out a bit strange. I also wanted to talk about Japan's labour force and declining birth rate, but wasn't asked unfortunately. But our teacher did say to expect that they'd ignore links a fair bit, so although it was unpleasant, wasn't entirely unexpected.
in kaiwa, i'd said "my sister is in a choir", and then was asked "in the future, what job would you like to have?" - i'm sure with kaiwa that you'll be able to answer all the questions, it's just that it's hard to anticipate the order. :( there was other stuff too, but i've kind of forgotten..
ugh, i realised that i misinterpreted the last question that i was asked, so not happy about that since it's probably not the best note to end on, lol. though i can't change anything now.
most of the examiners, like mine, seem to have been nice, although one of my friends said everytime she made a mistake, one of her examiners whom she said was rather unfriendly immediately seemed to "pounce" and frantically jot the error down which really unnerved her.. although this might just be her being paranoid, LOL.
-
wow mine is in 3 days, and to make it worse, i've gotten sick. GREAT! i've got my DS organised but no where near organised for general convo, i suck severely. like to the question, how many people are there in your family? i just answer in my family there are 6 people. Dad, Mum, Older sister, Younger brother, Younger sister and myself. Then like do you have any pets? yes i have pets, a cat and a dog. (i actually have 2 dogs but can never remember where i add in the number of them). haha.

Wouldn't it be something like this: 猫を一匹と犬を二匹飼っている。

wow mine is in 3 days, and to make it worse, i've gotten sick. GREAT! i've got my DS organised but no where near organised for general convo, i suck severely. like to the question, how many people are there in your family? i just answer in my family there are 6 people. Dad, Mum, Older sister, Younger brother, Younger sister and myself. Then like do you have any pets? yes i have pets, a cat and a dog. (i actually have 2 dogs but can never remember where i add in the number of them). haha.
Well if they ask "how many people are there in your family", you would have to answer there are 6 people eh? =] It's all good. Um, for the 2 dogs do you mean you don't know where to use the small animal counter?
Wouldn't it be something like this: 猫を一匹と犬を二匹飼っている。
I dunno, I'm just guessing... >.>

Saraime2003さん、がんばってね。 Um I guess you could memorise quite a lot in 3 days if you try =]

Hey my oral is in a motel or something, is that normal?
-
lol thanks for the advice everyone.

I thinks its a bit weird, what do they expect you to do?? *shifty eyes* lol

Nah other people have mentioned it too...And the Exam slip definitely looks legit (or someone had too much free time on their hands...?).
It's here http://www.thetudor.com.au/

Good memories of Japan
...
Anyway, how long (ji) is everyone's script for kaiwa? After getting owned I have decided that winging it without a script was a stupid idea, and am in the process of writing a super script >_>
-
Guess what?
I have the worst luck in the world.
My Jap oral is tomorrow. I have Severe gastro. what am i going to do? its at 1.45. i can't go more than 15 mins without running to the toilet. :( HELP@!@@@!@!!!!!!!

If your problem is very severe, maybe you should contact your school to see if you can have any special consideration for the exam. I dunno if this is possible though. Get well soon!
-
that really, really sucks. i guess you have no choice but to try and get through the exam if you want some sort of mark, but hopefully the supervisors will understand your situation if you explain it to them? if your teacher's coming with you, that might help in explaining..
all i can say is, good luck, and i'm sorry that something like this had to happen to you at such a bad time
-
That's terrible news!! Hope you get better before your exam tomorrow. Just drink heaps of water and get a good nights rest and hopefully you should be fine!
Yes my oral is at the tudor in box hill too. Dw it's legit :P
-
lol yeah. my teachers not coming, and i have no idea how to explain it. I'm going to call my school tomorrow and tell my co ordinators n see what i should do. also going to call the doctors incase i need to get an appointment for special consideration. lol i've applied for special consideration for every exam i've done so far. (Bio last year, both exam, this yrs psych exam... lol grrr...

omg, I feel so bad for you :(. Look what you should do, since it is an exam, there are tablets available which stop the diarrhoea (sorry for the gross images), the earlier you take them the better, but they don't take long to fall into full swing lol. And some even read on the packet that if the "loose bowel" still occurs, you take 1 tablet each time until it stops.
Let us know how it goes. And best of luck.
-
where do i get these magic tablets?!?!?! lol.
-
googled them. called imodium. going to pharmacy in the morning. hopefully will work. Thanks for advice guys... :) <3
-
I don't know if i had GASTRO, but it was "loose bowels" lol. At the chemist. I went to doctor first and they gave me stupid rehydration medicine, which made me spew, yes seirously (i was practcially eating powder which sucked up the glas of wate, I felt much worse, and it was salty flavour). So don;t bother buying those, no point, I just drank water.
Um, just ask at the chemist for ANYTHING, they are all bound to work. Also avoid EVERY food, just seriously eat bread, bread, bread.
But I forgot to mention, if you have a parasite, which I think Gastro is, you need to "poop" (sorry), for a little while to ensure it is cleansed from your body, if you take tablets and stop yourself from going toilet it remains trapped inside, so yeah.
Sorry I can't remember exact name, but try "ethical nutrients" I see their advertisements all the time on television, so at leats its a well known brand and not some random.
Goodluck again!
-
yeah thanks. not having any problems 'pooping' atm, thats for sure. LOL. but hopefully that will fix it, even for a little bit. probabaly going to bed in a sec, doubt i'll get any sleep, probably be up to the toilet most of the night.
Thanks.
-
I hope you're feeling okay this morning Saraime... please let us know how your day goes :)
-
I hope you're feeling okay this morning Saraime... please let us know how your day goes :)
I agree. How did you go! LOL, your situation was brought up at school, I was like "this person has their oral exam 2day and such and such".
-
LOL... thanks haha. well my school had no idea what to do. There were quite useless, apart from supplying me with the DES sheet. i took it to the doctors at 9.15, cost me $50 to get her to fill it out :( (money i going to use on getting my hair done for valedictory next week lol). Went and bought the Imodium, works soooo good. my stomach doesn't hurt at all and i haven't been since. lol. My exam went well, despite me almost walking in without my post -.-. Our language assistant realised just before i went in, then ran it down to me. lol. I got random questions though, a few i studied, others i didn't. I had 1 native speaker and another lady. The native speaker asked me what i did in my spare time and i was like, i play table tennis, watch tv and >WATCH BOOKS<. i'm an idiot. Hoping i dont look a mark for that cos maybe i do look at picture books :P. lol But i doubt it. Was no where near as scary as i was expecting, and the examiners were lovely. Apart from the native speaker also asking, is kyuushoku expensive, and do japanese students like kyuushoku? I was like i think kyuushoku is a little bit expensive. and to the second question, i didn't no how to answer so i was like... I like kyuushoku, but i've never been to Japan. LOL. i'm so stupid.
My aim was to get thru it without using english. and i did, so i'm happy. :)
Thanks for all your help. Hoping i get better soon so i can go visit my dad whose been in hospital since last week. :(.
-
That's good to hear Saraime! OOO, I wanna study jap!!!!
And I am glad the medicine worked! Thank God it has been created!
And hope you and ur dad get well soon :), just think, 1 exam is half over. (i think u still do a written?)
-
Yeah we do... :) Thanks. i'm going to recommend Imodium to anyone who has gastro. works wonders. and the doctor did tell me about the parasite thing. and she recommended to stay away from dairy and wheat because your digestive system has to work harder and it isn't goo while you have gastro. and she also sai to eat plenty of salty foods to replace the salts you loose from all the diarrhoea. lol. I haven't bothered though, i drank loads of rasberry cordial lastnight to try and combat it for the night, it seemed to work, only got up once in the night. lol
-
hahaha love how we are being so open about our digestive system LOL
-
yeah lol. well, i figure i was in desperate need of help lastnight, and it was more embarrassing lastnight getting up the guts to actually post about it. i also asked for help by putting it as my facebook status lastnight. So i don't feel so embarrassed now. lol
-
Ha ha... I'm glad you went well in the end :)
I have my oral and listening exams next week (beginner uni Jap... you guys are so pro compared to me XD)

Because you can just join at level 1, which requires no prior knowledge. One of my life-goals is to become fluent in another language, and I figure that being able to study a language at uni is just too good an opportunity to give up. Uni-level Jap moves very quickly. I'm probably the equivalent of a year 10 student now, and I've only been studying for about... 25 weeks now. By the end of next year, I'll have abilities equivalent to those who did it for their VCE.
I don't wanna hijack *another* thread though... so let us revert back to topic.

Hmm my teacher and tutor keep complaining about my crap pronunciation. Hopefully the examiners can understand me on the day >_>

Hmm... are your teacher/tutor Jap themselves?
I learn from native speakers, so I guess my pronunciation isn't that bad... do you know any natives that you could practice your pronunciation with for a couple of hours?

Yep both teacher and tutor are native. They just tell me to say words more clearly >_> (well duh). Easier said than done. My teacher even said that I should say that I just got braces last week so I can't speak clearly >_<
-
lmao!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA. THAT bad? LOL. Harsh, harsh, if I were you id be deeply scarred :(
Don't worry I am sure with your passion and commitment for the language you will go far. GL to you smRandmAzn

common case of japanese humbleness it seems. I don't believe in 'levels' and 'being better/pro' it is more so a case of 'exposure/experience' than 'ability' really.
-
LOL... my teachers told me to go in and say すみません、今日、私はびようきです。lol but as soon as i got in there they started talking :( lol. oh well.
could be just as well, because they could've started asking you to describe your sickness in detail, which could've potentially sucked/backfired if you didn't know how to say "gastro" or describe it in Japanese
-

haha don't worry too much, although i hope they don't ask you about braces if you tell them that you only got them last week!

would they do that? I don't think that's; fair, for example one couldn't be expected to know how to say "braces" in Japanese, or "orthodontist/appointment/lisp". That would be harsh!

Hey can someone who has done the exam listen to this recording and tell me whether it not mirrors the real thing? I just did a recording with my tutor today that in theory simulates the real exam
http://www.box.net/shared/jcbpy8hiv4 (15 mb file)...maybe I should upload to somewhere that allows streaming
lol it's pretty clear how scripted the general convo is =] I wrote a full script after failing a winged mock oral
2 days to go Dejan~ feeling nervous?
-
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous :P But I don't think it's hit me to the full extent yet! I'm sure when I'm sitting outside waiting to go in I'll be a nervous wreck haha. You ready?
-
When I get nervous I just think about how it's worth 12.5%
...But then again every point counts >_>
一緒にがんばろうね~ファイト~だよ!!
-
Is that "how it's ONLY worth 12.5%"? If so, good point you have, I'll try to keep that in mind tomorrow! :)
はい、がんばろう!!
-
OMFG YAY ITS ALL OVER 4EVA
I really dunno how I went >_> I think I spoke way too fast off my script, dunno if they could understand me properly. I also didn't get any dodgy questions, which I interpret as a sign that they thought I couldn't hack it >_<
I also got an Indian examiner.
On a completely irrelevant note, I cut my hair shortish before this exam and I miss my longish hair with sides I could chew on and a fringe that blocked my field of vision every 5 seconds.
-
Glad it went well!!!!
Hope you get your desired SS, now only the written left! LOL, an INDIAN examiner :S, I have never heard of that, lol. Well hopefully they were fair and mark lenient!
How did you go Dejan!!!???
Look forward to hearing of another success.
-
Wooooooooo! DONE!!!
Which room did you get SmRandmAzn?? And what time were you btw?
-
I had room 1, 1:45. What a pov motel, so vacant that they rent it out for exams. I was kind of pissed that we had to wait outside until 10 minutes before exams, I came like an hour early.
How did you go dejan91?
-
Ahhk well apparently (was told by some school before us that used up all the rooms) that rooms 5,6,7,8 had the 'nice' assessors. I had room 5, 3:40. Yeah it was ridiculous we had to wait outside the whole BUILDING until 10 or so minutes! Even worse was waiting outside the room with the afternoon sun right on me and no shade. But all in all thought it went well. I had the same (problem?) as you where they didn't ask me any overly difficult questions. I was actually disappointed they didn't... Made a few mistakes, but hey, only natural... Said 会いに見ます instead of 会いに行きます...fooooool! I had a mental block at that moment and it just came out.I'm just glad it's over now!!
