Hello everyone, I just thought I'd get your opinion on something again.
I found out that VU is offering Accounting mid year, and its CSP. However I'm not too keen on going to VU, my question is, do I go to VU or do I wait til next year and apply for RMIT/ACU?
Thanks in advance
-
if your not too keen on VU then chances are you won't enjoy it and want to transfer course. I'd wait for RMIT or ACU sounds like you want to go there more.
-
Why don't you like VU?

why should anyone like VU? =S
from personal experience, i can tell you that no universities can be more badly managed.

You answered your own question, personally I don't think there is any point in attending VU if you already have reservations about it.
-
Okie dokie, I just wanted to know if accounting at VU was any good, if anyone knew anything about it. I would prefer to wait
-
One of my friends is doing accounting at VU, and he wants to transfer at the end of this year cause he isn't liking VU much :P
-
One of my friends is actually going to go to VU to do accounting after her two years at TAFE...apparently, the uni will let her in if she does really well in tafe.

thats a lie =P
they are a desparate bunch of buggers who would do anything to get new students!
they accept applications from TAFE students who fail TAFE subjects....

wise =]
not saying everyone there is crap, but in comparison, where you are at is MUCH better.
and with FEE-HELP, just concentrate on doing well in uni, dont worry about trying to reduce fees that you, as an accountant [if i remember rightly], will be able to earn back overnight =]

apparently RMIT has a decent accoutning course..... my sisters friend got 98+ (from macrob) and she accepted a scholarship to do accounting .... she seems to like it (i think)
if anything you should try to get in at RMIT .... well thats what I would do

Ultimately you go where you can get in. If you can get into the course you want, there is no need to settle for a course that you possess reservations about.

Not true for all study areas.
For medicine, thankfully, it's a fairly standard course throughout all Universities. Taking myself as an example, if I only had the choice of doing Info Sys at Melbourne Uni, I would have done Commerce or Music instead.

-sighs- my parents are making me go to vu :'(

Ah well :)
If you get great marks, you'll be able to transfer to another university at the end of the year I'm pretty sure.
Nonetheless, I don't think your parents should be able to decide for you. It's your future.
Good luck anyway.

Exactly what i told my parents, oh well i guess its better than wasting a whole semester, and anyway, once i graduate, i could always continue studies elsewhere :)
-
why do they want you to go to VU?
-
VU is like the complete and utter contrast of UoM. I mean, far out, VU is like just a big public school :P (and that's low). All the drug lords go there for education LOOOL (ok that's harsh lol)
-
(ok that's harsh lol)
but true

Well the way my parents see it is that a degree is a degree whether its from VU or UoM, only difference is the reputation/prestige each university has... Oh well -sigh-

lol, not quite. Going to a 'prestigious' uni can translate into higher graduate salaries (on average) and it'll much easier to find and obtain a career at a large-firm (citi, exxonmobil etc) (providing you have the required work experience).
Also for a real case example, (totally unbiased, being the zealot I am :P) UoM's IT courses suck due to their out-of-date/irrelevant course material. This could potentially mean losing vital knowledge of some parts of the course. See?
-
Tell that to my parents! They don't listen to me lolz... oh well VU it is -prays vu doesn't accept me or my application gets lost in the mail-
-
So glad my parents know jack all about uni's and VCE :D

Lucky you, mine hardly know anything(in regards to VCE and unis), yet they pretend to know =P

lol, as if!
they'll accept chickens if they could sign the enrolment form~!
[btw i thought you were enrolled in a degree in ACU?]

-sighs- anyways um to answer your question, i am enrolled in a degree at ACU but i'm transfering to VU, (don't like the course i'm currently enrolled in)

It's more irrelevance in a rapidly changing market. I mean, they teach ELECTRONICS when the shift is moving towards analysis, design, consulting etc... Coding is offshored.

I have a couple of mates who are doing accounting at VU right now. However, I agree with the sentiments on this forum that VU is a poor standard uni.

That makes me feel so much better :'(

The people @ VU are more down-to-earth, and the coursework is more practical, but employability of someone with an accounting degree from VU is lower than other universities. You'll find that you'll get a job once you graduate, but your starting pay will be lower. Keep in mind though, that it's just like high skool... just like no-one cares about how well you did in high skool once you've started uni, no-one will care where your degree came from after a couple of years dedication in the work force. If you really don't want 2g2 VU, complete the application form and "post" the letter (i.e tear it up and dispose of it in a public trash can your parents won't snoop thru), then get some1 techno-savvy to make an official-looking rejection letter 4 u (or better yet... some1 who works there and knows the general gist of a VU letter format *looks suspiciously at another VN member* :P).
Your parents seem to have their own best interests at heart, rather than yours. You need to do what's best 4 u Odette, and if that means going against them then do it (whether blatantly or covertly is up to u).
