No way due to stupid english language.

probablly won't get the actual ENTER I originally wanted, but i'll go close (hopefully)

wanted 87.. however, after the further maths MC exam my hopes dropped drastically... it basically all comes down to IT and business..... I need 40+ in both of them, otherwise i'm fucked.

I used to dream of a 99+ but this year I've gotten a lot more realistic - it's just way beyond me given that I'm not a genius by FAR and I don't do massively scaled subjects! So I've readjusted my aim to a 98+, which at this stage I believe is probably achievable for me, with one exam (Revs) to go. I've finished ranked either 1st or 2nd for SACs in all my subs this year, and bagged a H1 in semester 1 UMEP. I made at least 2 dumb mistakes on my Bio end of year (plus at least 2 dumb mistakes in the mid-year lol), but I well and truly exceeded my own expectations in Eng Lang today....so fingers crossed :) Gotta study hard for revs though! If I had to do the exam tomorrow I'd probably be screwed!

Wanted 95+, but now that I stuffed English up it doesn't look promising. Depends if I can redeem myself by getting at least 32 in Methods and 35 in French. Otherwise, probably looking at 93 - 95. SIGH.

Same, want 95.. but it's looking very sketchy.Given up completely on one subject and am pretty much banking on three subjects where I've put all my effort.

I want 92, and I've only done one exam so far, so for the time being it's still a realistic goal.

No way, I am so screwed now because I was gearing up to get over 40 raw for spec so I could get 50+ scaled, but that is not going to happen anymore :(

Also screwed up english, so BOO.

I need 85. Besides my Physics SS aim, and maybe economics, they all seem doable.

It's an awful time to get sick, though. :(

Wanted 92. (Need 81+ - the higher the better).

Gone well so far. English did better then I expected. Accounting not in Primary 4 but did well. Methods tomorrow unimportant as well.

All comes down to IT (A+ in sacs) and Legal (A+ in sacs).

Super prepared for IT.... have no idea for anything in legal. :) yay! haha.

Doubts are starting to creep into my mind now as well, about my ENTER :S

I'm trying to make myself stop thinking about what I wrote on my exams so that I don't discover any more silly errors and beat myself up over it for days and weeks...but it's tough blocking the thoughts out!

Was hoping for 96, would have been happy with 93-94.
Now...i doubt i can even get 90 :(
I don't really care about my enter anymore, there's not much difference between a 80 and 89 to me, either way, i cant get into melb or monash.
Stupid 4 digit number :P

I'm particularly stressing about my Biology SS...my teacher has been wonderful this year and he has very high hopes of me hitting the high 40s...I wasn't thinking about that as I did my exams, but now they're done, I keep thinking about how I made some dumb mistakes which may really affect my chances of that dream score. I really don't want to let my teacher or myself down :(

haha well ive only done one exam!
and i dont have another one until next thursday....
so, i hope english was ok enough to keep me on track for media/comm at melb :)
but is there anyone out there who can possibly beat my timetable (in terms of it being so bad!) ??
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: JL_91 on November 06, 2008, 09:51:32 pm
^ Bad timetable, in what sense?

My total exam timetable was/is November 3, 5 and 13, plus a small rather insignificant UMEP one (30 multi choice in 1 hour) on Nov 20. So I'm considering myself a free person as of November 13 ;D

in the sense that my chinese oral was 6th oct, french oral 20th oct, eng 31st oct
12 day break!
then pol and revs within an hour of each other on the 13th nov
french 19th nov
chinese 20th nov
:S
verrryyyy spread out
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: JL_91 on November 06, 2008, 09:55:48 pm
Oh golly gosh...pol and revs within an hour of each other sure is tough! I have revs too, but that will be my final one. And wow you do 2 LOTEs 0_____0 I'm passionate about foreign languages, but my speaking skills are terrible compared to my writing, so I didn't do any for VCE. In hindsight I would have done Latin though...no oral, I love it, massive scaling!

tell me about it! is that not the most stupid vcaa timetabling ever??

Hmm....i think i can ;D

Fri 10th Oct Chinese
Fri 31st Oct English.
Mon 3rd Nov Further 1
Mon - Specialist 1 (1.5 hours after further)
Tue - Public holiday (my only weekday off)
Wed - Further 2
Thurs - Accounting
Fri - Methods 2
Mon - Methods 2
Tues - Specialist 2
Thurs 20th Nov Chinese 3:00pm- 5:15pm

I pretty much have an exam every single day from the day we had english (with 2 on one day)
Including a week with 5 exams.
And i don't get to finish until the LAST vce exam on the last day :(
Its spread out cos it goes from 10th Oct to 20th Nov, but WAYYY too clumped together inbetween
not to mention i have 10 exams in total :P hahaa

Does my timetable beat yours? :D

yeh i think you come in at the other end of the scale: overloaded.
you must be exhausted atm!
but then heaps of time to study for chinese so thats ok
still, i have a 12 day break and then two humanities subjects on the one day...
but what can you do?
how are u feeling for chinese? new format and all that?

Haha precisely...best scaling in the VCE system! Well, my school offers German and Chinese. I'd been doing French since primary school, but I would have been forced to do it through distance ed if I wanted to keep it for VCE. I'm teaching myself German at the moment, but I only picked it up in 2004 and found the 3 genders and all the cases exceptionally difficult to deal with, so it was a big no-no for my VCE. And Chinese - well I'm a native Cantonese speaker whose family is from Hong Kong, so I speak Mandarin really badly, and with a terrible Cantonese accent...which the Chinese assessors would no doubt have absolutely HATED. I would have only been classified as a SL student though, since I was born in Canada and only did kindergarten/preschool in HK.

Yeah I find it stupid too, because many people who do pol would be doing revs too >< all those humanities subs. Lol I love humanities...there's less of a problem with difficult vs. easy exams, as compared to the maths/sciences.

Yeah unfortunately there's nothing i can do about it.
At least i'm now at the end of my busiest week.
I was falling asleep when i was studying today lol.
And yeah...i have lotssssss of time for chinese...a bit too much haha.
I'll always be wondering if i would have performed better on my exams if they were a bit more spread out, giving me a rest inbetween and some extra time to study (cram :P) lol

But uhhhh...chinese...new format??  ???
Please explain..... :(

Yeah, I mentioned somewhere else that having Revs following Nat Pol is ludicrous, as so many ppl are always going to have that combination. It would be akin to having Methods and Accounting on the same day.

To scumel - yep, I'm a revs kid :) We did the Russian and French Revolutions this year...using the Russian Rev textbook written by my teacher, and the French Rev text written by Dr. Adcock, the revs teacher at our Caulfield Campus. Lol...royalties much?! ;D
I'm a little worried over the French Rev, especially the essay. But I'm pretty happy with my Russia knowledge. What about you, which revs did you do?

the translation section requires you to directly translate sentences or paragraphs into fluent english from chinese characters :)

Hehe, sorry to break up the conversation. :P

Not looking for my desired ENTER at all! At the start of the year, I was subconsciously thinking 'yes, 95, 95... I can get it!'. Mid-year, I wasn't much different, as I had no mid-year exams, and hence, felt no real stress about it. Then, I had my Italian Oral... And everything just went downhill from there! English was not really any better... And after specialist, I felt like killing myself! Methods tomorrow will probably be no different, and now I am just hoping for the 70's (even though it won't get me into any of my courses :'(). So all hope is practically lost for me...

bit worried about the essay too, mostly with timing. other than that though hopefully it will be ok, just need to consolidate my historians perspectives a bit more

Yup he's my teacher! Hahaha yeah they sure are raking in those royalties :p but they're good books so they deserve to be used, definitely. And yes, Russia for A, France for B is the plan for us too...I'm hoping I can buy myself at least 45 minutes to do the essay in. Half an hour isn't realistic for a slow writer like me. Ugggh and yeah you've just reminded me that I need more perspectives too!!

penny evans, she's still only young though, awesome teacher though
true. although we had a practice essay "authoritarianism saved the revolution", so i figure if i could manage that...well, fingers crossed
since 2005 the vcaa topics have been pretty similar though i think
but given the 'hard year' so far, anything is possible!

JL_91 may i ask, what was your study scores for methods and musics.

p.s.(solo)

sorry but it's my and my family's preference not to reveal my individual study scores - i will most likely reveal my final ENTER score in the end, out of my own choice, but we came to that decision in the middle of last year because of far, far too much nosiness from my classmates (particularly in the methods class because I was ranked #1 in SACs and all of a sudden everyone just 'had' to know what I was getting etc. which made me very uncomfortable). They were not genius-level scores, but I was happy with my maths score, and fairly happy with my music score.

I don't think it's possible to generalise across all subjects. We had an easy Biology mid-year exam, for example. So, the best way is just to go in knowing our stuff so we can KILLLL the exam :D

^ yep exactly the situation and why she kept bugging me - it was either me or her for the year-end #1 SAC ranking according to everyone's guess - the teacher refused to tell us to prevent this exact kind of tension/competition that eventually flared up anyway. Haha i hope that person in your legal class gets off your back then!

If you're talking about raw scores, then probably around 91-92, which I calculated according to last year's scaling report. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

If you get an ENTER of less than 30 you get a 'less than 30' as your ENTER. So effectively everyone has got at least a 30, provided you haven't failed VCE

Last year, almost half of my school had gained the coveted title of 'less than 30'. Most looked at what they really got, others didn't care, and got jobs. The lowest from my recollection (and we are not the best public school around) was 4.35. Yes, an ENTER, not a study score. It never ceases to amaze me how one can get such a score? Maybe they just write their name on the exam and go to sleep??? Who knows?

Haha yeah. To be honest when I picked it I didn't really have a grip on how VCE worked with subjects etc. I knew it got scaled down afew but really had no idea how it compared to other subjects. As soon as I learned how bad it got scaled I just tried for around 30 scaled(which I got) to put as my 6th subject.

Serves me right for not researching shit properly though.

Pretty much 100% in everything (SAC's and exam). Since this subject is considered 'easy', more people will get full marks in it, and even losing 1 mark could drop you from a 50 to a 49 or 48. I sincerely wish you good luck trying to achieve this! :D

My aims are a little unconventional, not exactly an ENTER score because it's so easy to get into UoM anyway. I wanted 100 combined in methods and spec after scaling, I think I might fall a point or two short. Second aim was to beat my sister in english, because she is doing Journalism so it would feel good to know im better at english than her, should achieve this aim. Third aim was to beat friends from my old school at psychology with only studying for 1 hour the day before the exam, should have completed this. Didn't really have a goal for physics. Anyway I guess my ENTER aim is to get above MHS median, looking pretty good.

Back on track after IT.

Just Legal left.

38+ and it makes Primary 4. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

93/100 for Unit 3
85/100 for Unit 4

What do I need for 38?
40?

:) ty! haha

I think I'm still capable of getting the 92 I want.

Though, I have one quick question: how important is your ranking within your cohort, and does it greatly effect your ss?
I'm first in Philosophy and Lit, equal first in English Language, about third or fourth in Revs and around the middle for Meth.
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: michaelc8 on November 12, 2008, 10:59:10 am
yeh, does position in class or even ur sac marks get edited or effected in any way?
also anyhere wanna guess my ss for pe, 92 outv 100 sym 1 88 outv 100 sym 2 and a high A or low A+ on the exam?

also has any1 got an image of the bell curve or know what percentage gets 50, 49, and 40 please.
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: hard on November 12, 2008, 11:04:30 am
your position in your class is important. This is because if you're ranked first, then when you class does their exams the person with the highest exam mark becomes your SAC mark. The second person will get the second highest exam mark as their sac mark and the third the third highest etc.
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?

ugh so if the dumasses in my drama class hapnd to flook an an awesome exam mark better than mine, me being highest in the class would then be reduced to whatever sac mark he got!? how can u compare an exam mark to sac marks wen the exam is worth 25% and sac marks are worth 40%? so if i got 95 outv 100. the person with the highest exam mark will steal my 95??
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?

that has got me so bloody confused lol so i could have gotten D's all year and then just beat my class in the exam and i woulda gotten all A+s for my sacs then lol sounds too good/bad/stupid to be true
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: vce01 on November 12, 2008, 12:52:42 pm
no, the ranking of your exams isn't what determines your sac score. it's your ranking for the sacs that does.

eg: you are #1 for sacs in your cohort. but you get an exam mark that ranks as the 5th best or something. you still get the highest exam mark in your cohort as your sac mark because you were ranked #1 for sacs. get it?

anyhow, back OT...im not confident about my predicted further and esl scores :( which sucks cuz i had to get 45 in bm as it is, now its like i need 48. hopefully im underestimating my predicted scores, especially for esl.
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?
Post by: Athomas on November 12, 2008, 12:56:17 pm
Yep.

I'm hoping my whole class killed IT now.

For example:
I'd prefer to get 46 and be 4th in the class
then
get 43 and be first in the class.

I use to look at it as 'I must be the best in class, (ranked like 5th) , but now see the light ;)

so since im first in drama and first in systems engineering for sacs, if i get the 4th best exam result in those 2 subjects what will happen to my sac marks and my exam result and are u 99% sure about this?
Title: Re: on track for your ENTER hopes?

ok heres another hypothetical just to try and figure out how the sacs work,
say you were ranked round 3rd-5th for sacs but got the highest exam mark, how does that work for ur sacs then?
does ur exam mark go to whoever was ranked 1st for ssac but in a way it disadvantages you??
ahh its so confusing!
