How did everyone go?
I think it's very easy haha
-
hoping to get above 75~
-
That was actually really hard. I left like 4 questions.
-
lol that was piss easy :D aced it
-
thought it was ok apart from question two in the extended response
-
fliping tasmania u noob
apart from that
was alright
tad harder than previous years?
-
what did everyone get for multi choice?>
-
Found it quite challenging.
I couldn't do two of the multiple choice questions and maybe lost 4-5 marks on section two, hope I can still get above 40 though! It was pretty long too, i finished with about 5 mins to check over my answers...
-
One word.
I suck at methods. I found it very looooong and challenging.
-
One word.
I suck at methods. I found it very looooong and challenging.
haha what? how is that one word?
-
They don't teach us how to count in methods and I suck at methods^^
-
So what new adventure did Tasmania Jones find himself in today? :P
-
so do u reckon it was easier than 2006?
-
no. 2006 was so easy. this was challenging.
-
i reckon it was equivalent to 07!! shud be a fairly good range
-
So what new adventure did Tasmania Jones find himself in today? :P
He got bitten by a snake and had to find the shortest way to his camp in order to retrieve the antidote.
HUGE Spoiler alert: he lives, amazing!!
-
tasmania jones should've not been able to get to the antidote in time and died off once and for all.
-
Does anybody still remember their answer to the last part of the TJ question? Is it 5 days or 6 days?
-
So what new adventure did Tasmania Jones find himself in today? :P
Got bitten by a snake, was so temptep to draw a person with a snake dangling of his...
Had to work out the quickest path to an anti-tote (w.e) etc.
-
Does anybody still remember their answer to the last part of the TJ question? Is it 5 days or 6 days?
i didn't get it (guessed 10 =.=), my friends said 5 days though
-
Yeah, i got 5 =/
-
damn he didn't die lol

Does anybody still remember their answer to the last part of the TJ question? Is it 5 days or 6 days?
I Got 5 days
-
Ok thanks for all the answers, i got 5 days too but 2 of my friends said 6 days so im worried lol.
-
what was the last part of the TJ q again?
-
btw, im glad tasmiania didn't die.
i (L) tasmania jones :)
-
i got 6.....
16, 24, 32, 40 , 48 ,56...?
-
16 was the first day,
16 - 0 days had past,
so therefore FIVE days.
-
Life sucks.
-
btw, im glad tasmiania didn't die.
i (L) tasmania jones :)
next time.... he'll be in the netball q
-
Life sucks.
why? :(
-
But he had to take it on the 6th day for anything to happen so i stand by 6
-
btw, im glad tasmiania didn't die.
i (L) tasmania jones :)

rofl
-
what do you all picture tasmania jones to look like?
i picture him as a bandicoot with a really cool navy hat and red shorts ;)
-
did the question ask: how many days?
or on what day?
-
Tassie Jones the gold digger
-
what do you all picture tasmania jones to look like?

He's the CEO of vcaa if u didnt know. Eventually you will be shown progressively each year of how he made it to his current position.
-
Life sucks.
why? :(
I found the exam incredibly hard. I left patches of crap everywhere, the only thing I completed fully was the first short answer.
But I'm glad you did well (by the looks of it), gabrielle.
-
I got -0.68 days! Think that's possible?? lol, that was a stupid question!
Probability was by far the best!
-
fair sure he's an australian indiana jones.. ...so like..tasmania..jones..so hes crocodile dundeee
-
yea I got 5 days as well
didnt it say after how many days? so I thought 5
-
did the question ask: how many days?
or on what day?
How many days i think.
-
fair sure he's an australian indiana jones.. ...so like..tasmania..jones..so hes crocodile dundeee
haha no way, he is a bandicoot fo' sho!

well i agree that life sucks atm.
but your last exam will be soon, and then life will be amazing! :)
don't dwell on the questions you didn't answer. just think about how good life is going to be after vce! :) fuckkkkk yes.
-
well i just realised, but there was no normal distribution on any of this years exams :o
-
did the question ask: how many days?
or on what day?
How many.
Yes, I'm sure.
-
did the question ask: how many days?
or on what day?
so the answer is five then, right?
How many.
Yes, I'm sure.
-
crossdresser
hence why his so nooby
-
i vote 6 days!
-
Does anyone know how different the CAS and non-cas exams are, like are the multiple choice the same or slightly different.
-
Synesthetic's suggested solution for that question is 5 days. Hope he's right.
-
Five days:
z(0)=16, increase by 8 every day
=> z(1)=24, z(2)=32, z(3)=40, z(4)=48, z(5)=54>50 => Requires five days
-
On one of the Tasmania questions, my boyfriend wrote "Tasmania didn't make it; he was mauled by a lion whilst running at 5km/h through the jungle."

Hahahaha!
-
Does anybody still remember their answer to the last part of the TJ question? Is it 5 days or 6 days?
I Got 5 days
i had 7 days lol. using arithmetic sequence.
-
*sniff*... Was the hardest thing ever! Now need to wait for spec... :(
-
'on how many days does he have to take the capsule'
that was the question
he needs to take 6 capsules
16 24 32 40 48 56
one capsule every day
so he has to take a capsule on 6 days.
-
First day is initial, so it's 5 days.

high five!
-
I found the exam fairly difficult; answered nearly all questions, however I'm unsure about some of the answers :( . MC was v. easy. Hopefully I can still get 40+...
-
but he still takes it on THAT day as well...it's not like the FIRST day he takes it ISN'T a day. So it's SIX days not five.
-
It's six days, how do I know? Look at the high achiever supplement when it comes out in december in The Age, my name should be under the heading "50".
-
harder or easier than 07 u think?
-
think about it like this,
how many hours have past from the beginning of 1am to the beginning of 6am.... FIVE HOURS
how many days have past from the beginning of day 1 to the beginning of day 6... FIVE days!
-
it said: "Tasmania will no longer be affected when he first reaches 50 units"
This happens during the 5th day, therefore its 5, even though it slips back to 48 during that day
-
It's six days, how do I know? Look at the high achiever supplement when it comes out in december in The Age, my name should be under the heading "50".
bit of a fuckhead arent you

"should be"... WON'T BE!
-
if you take a pill today...and then you have to take one everyday for the next five days...does today not count as a day?
-
guys that was only worth 1 mark
-
haha...gud call
-
gabrielle, I trust myself over someone who got a 28 in legal.
-
if you take a pill today...and then you have to take one everyday for the next five days...does today not count as a day?
today does, but the last day doesn't because it hadn't past yet.
-
yes it does because it's still a day.
monday - pill
tuesday - pill
wed - pill
thurs - pill
fri - pill
sat - pill
that's six pills on six days.
and darklok that was low. don't need to start insulting people. it's just a discussion. if you want to be rude LEAVE
-
gabrielle, I trust myself over someone who got a 28 in legal.
Hmm, correlation between Legal Studies and Maths Methods, let alone year 11 performance versus year 12 performance.
-
gabrielle, I trust myself over someone who got a 28 in legal.
Really unnecessary.
In the end, she has an extra 2.8 increment on her ENTER, so it's pretty much a win-win for her.
-
gabrielle, I trust myself over someone who got a 28 in legal.
that was legal, not maths.
I'm a logical thinker, do EXTREMELY well in maths,
not so good in other subjects.
it even had a graph to show you
day 0 concentration 16
day 1 - 24
day 2 - 32
day 3 - 40
day 4 - 48
day 5 - 56
how thick do you have to be.
look at the graph you twit!
-
but it's STILL a day.
-
FUCK YOU METHODS
I did horribly. Lost at least 5 marks at the end.
Didn't get time to double check at all.
-
Read the question.
"Assuming he takes the capsule at the same time each day, on how many days does he need to take the a capsule so that he will no longer be affected by the snake toxin?"
i took a pill on day 0
i took a pill on day 1
i took a pill on day 2
i took a pill on day 3
i took a pill on day 4
i took a pill on day 5
i took a pill on 6 days.
and, CAS kids have an advantage but its counted a different subject so it doesnt matter.
-
Day 1 starts at 0. think about it.
Your first point in a game takes you from zero to one. The second point from one to two etc. The sixth day is from five to six.
-
i really dont get how the cas kids DONT have the advantage is this exam
i have a cas for spech and methods is just normal...
IE cas could easily double check exact answers + draw the graphs quicker
wth vcaa...
The CAS exam was quite a bit different to the Non-Cas one. Just looking at the first question of short answer, we had about 2 or 3 more parts to that question. So VCAA do take into consideration that Cas is able to do things a bit quicker.
-
It's six days, how do I know? Look at the high achiever supplement when it comes out in december in The Age, my name should be under the heading "50".
lololol
-
last yr it was bout 64/80 that got you an A+. Who much do u think it will be this year. Personally i thought last year was easier but i sometimes find spec easier than methods so i may be wrong. And vce01 i hope you r right cause i got 6 aswell
-
Yes, I think you should count day zero as a day. (Haven't read the question)
-
"day 0 concentration 16"
That isn't logical, he has to take a pill to start at conc 16..
I vote 6 days :)
-
Read the question.

for the question with the normal to the graph of tan
and we had to sketch the normal
did anyone else put a point of discontinuity at the asymptote?
-
okay, what grade do you guys reckon a 45 would get? thanks
-
Okay yes, having read it again...six days is correct.
-
for the question with the normal to the graph of tan
and we had to sketch the normal
did anyone else put a point of discontinuity at the asymptote?
no, why would you?
-
because the domain was not defined at that point
-
because the domain was not defined at that point
The normal does not concern the gradients, or continuity, of the other points of the curve. It only concerns the point at which you were asked to find the normal to. For that reason, the normal should always be a linear equation with the domain of all real values.
-
yea but its the normal... why would it share the same domain??
btw... wat was up with the last question?? thought it was incredibley tricky... thoughts..
-
for the question with the normal to the graph of tan
and we had to sketch the normal
did anyone else put a point of discontinuity at the asymptote?
Do you have to sketch the normal over the same domain as the original graph? I sketched a small section oh it just enough to show the intercepts.
-
haha okay then, prob lost more than 3-4 marks. maybe 6-8 dammit, no way of 46 now.
-
if i lost 3 marks all up on both exams.. will i get a 50? any1?
-
if i lost 3 marks all up on both exams.. will i get a 50? any1?
Probably not. You pretty much need full marks for Methods.
-
Can't say I'm the biggest fan of Tasmania Jones!!
-
lame... it will be 45+ though yeh cob? my sac marks are A avg?
-
okay, what grade do you guys reckon a 45 would get? thanks
obviously A+
-
R u sure its six days? :o
-
okay, what grade do you guys reckon a 45 would get? thanks
obviously A+
45/80?
-
lame... it will be 45+ though yeh cob? my sac marks are A avg?
enwiabe dropped 3 marks on Exam 2 (full on Exam 1) and got 44. (97% on SACs).
I got 44 in methods in 2006 with 40/40 in exam 1, 77/80 in exam 2 and 97% for my SACs... I thought it was a friggen' joke.
Hmm...
That said, 2006 was considered an easy year!
-
i found dat exam fuukd :uglystupid2: like 07 probli...by the way, last question was der 2 stationary POI one at (2pi,2) and another at (0,2).
-
okay, what grade do you guys reckon a 45 would get? thanks
obviously A+
haha i wish.
-
(0,2) was not a stationary point.
-
2006 was a competitive year at the top end though, half the bloody state got 100%
-
what 45/80 ? thats an A+ for this exam??????????
-
what 45/80 ? thats an A+ for this exam??????????
doubt it
-
What would 40/40 exam 1 77/80 exam 2 (if suggested solutions so far are correct). And top 10% in SAC's at MHS get me?
-
45/80
More like B+
-
hmm, seems like it was easier than 07
so given that you'd get a B+ for 45 last year, im expecting a C+ for 45 atleast this year.
-
What would 40/40 exam 1 77/80 exam 2 (if suggested solutions so far are correct). And top 10% in SAC's at MHS get me?
45-50!well done
-
What would Exam 1 40/40 Exam 2 bout 70/80, Rank 1 in cohort (so A+ average in sacs) get you for a study score.(Raw)
-
What would Exam 1 40/40 Exam 2 bout 70/80, Rank 1 in cohort (so A+ average in sacs) get you for a study score.(Raw)
Probably in the low 40s
-
If that's raw i'd be happy with that
-
I feel like an idiot for writing (7-a)/(1-a) for the gradient...
-
I'm thoroughly disappointed that there were no normal distribution questions in either exam.
-
If I use the 2006 data in Mao's SS calculator [since the 06 exams were considered easy], will that give me an accurate indication of what SS I should get this year?
-
what ss would i get if i got 39/40 for exam 1 and 75/80 for exam 2???
-
what ss would i get if i got 39/40 for exam 1 and 75/80 for exam 2???
low to mid 40s
-
I'm thoroughly disappointed that there were no normal distribution questions in either exam.
I'm disappointed there was only one question with related rates and no differentiation by recognition.
-
THAT WAS WAY HARDER THAN 06 OR 07
-
agreed
way harder then 06 but only a little bit harder than last year
-
*This is Kurrymuncher's brother, kurrymuncher could not be here as he injected a lethal does of liquidnitrogen into his brain after realising the stupid mistakes he made on exam 2.

lol what'd you have to do for that question where you had to find the probability that the chick's first 4 shots were succesfull given that she got 6 out of 8 shots?
That muddled me up so bad
-

I don't remember this. I only remember that "what was the probability that exactly six shots out of eight were successful?"
-
i am so bad at maths =(
i get like D average for SACS and i think i got 55-60% for exam 1 and hopefully 50% for exam 2. is it still possible to get 30? or 35?
i try but i'm just bad at maths. i'm asian so i shud have the maths gene but i dont! haha

probably not 35, but 30 if you're lucky.
-
hmm 30 only if i'm lucky. yeah i hope i get at least 30. i hear it's easy xpesh cos dis yr's exams were considered tricky by most.
but i dunnoo...

What is the probability, correct to three decimal places, that her first 4 attempts at scoring a goal are successful, given that exactly 6 of her first 8 attempts at scoring a goal in a match are successful?
Combinatorics solution:
- Given exactly 6 successes == given exactly 2 failures
- Our probability space has these 2 failures anywhere in the 8 attempts, so 8 choices for the first fail * 7 choices for the second fail = 56
- The event we want has these 2 failures anywhere in the last 4 attempts, so 4 choices for the first fail * 3 choices for the second fail = 12

-
after checking the answers, i dropped 4 marks, oh shitshitshitshitshit!!!!!
If i get 38 for exam 1, is it possible for me to get a ss over 40 raw??
-
also, could anyone explain 1 a iii in a more algebrac way?? i got the answer same as ii though.....

Would have been an A last year. I would say this year was similar if not abit harder. So could very well be an A.
-
Hmmm... the maths exam was an interesting experience.
Because at 1.20pm the fire alarm/sirens went off at my school. Very, very loudly. Then half the school went walking past the exam's classroom talking to go to the lawn. Then the examiner thought everyone should close their exam booklets, get up and go to the lawn (but not talk at all). However, another teacher came in and said we should sit. And so everyone started talking (but we weren't allowed to talk about the exam) and others left the room to go to the toilet. The sirens were still going for another 5 minutes, then the siren sound changed... and then it was be broken up with a soothing male voice stating 'evacuate as directed. Evacuate as directed'.
:D
Very, very exciting. Finally the sirens stopped at around 1.30pm, and we were allowed another 15mins writing time because of it (we went till 2.15pm).
-
Haha that sounds like fun

She shoots for goal 8 times;
Split the problem into two scenarios: the first four shots at goal[1], then the next four[2].
[1] Probability she scores each of the first four times
n=4, r=4, p=0.8 => Pr(X=4) = (4C4)(0.8)^4(0.2)^0 = 0.8^4 = 0.4096
[2] Probability she scores two of the next four times
n=4, r=2, p=0.8 => Pr(X=2) = (4C2)(0.8)^2(0.2)^2 = 0.1536
[1] x [2] = 0.063 to 3 d.p.
From part a)ii) of that question, Pr(X=6) = 0.2936
Conditional probability: 0.063 / 0.2936 = 0.214 to 3 d.p.
-
Hmmm.... in the CAS exam I think there was only a) ii), not a) iii). Instead we had to do some markov chain stuff

[1] x [2] = 0.063 to 3 d.p.
From part a)ii) of that question, Pr(X=6) = 0.2936
Conditional probability: 0.063 / 0.2936 = 0.214 to 3 d.p.
sign.. i wish i knew how to do it during the exam..
well, thanks synesthetic

Do you guys all reckon that the cut off for this exam will be similar if not exactly the same to 07?
-
lol what'd you have to do for that question where you had to find the probability that the chick's first 4 shots were succesfull given that she got 6 out of 8 shots?
That muddled me up so bad
I don't remember this. I only remember that "what was the probability that exactly six shots out of eight were successful?"
Yes thats what I remember aswell. Do u do CAS by any chance?
-
hey what study score can i expect with approx 78/80 and 39-40/40?
-
GET DA CALCULATIONS HILAVIN MAGRAVIN MAINFRAME SYTAX CALCULATORZ
its over...school is for suckers
-
hey im such a retard, i messed up the domains of the normal and the end graph (tangent/sine function). do you reckon im going to be penalised twice?
-
hey what study score can i expect with approx 78/80 and 39-40/40?
definitely 48 +.
Probably a 50.
-
oh shit, you for real???? *goes an dies with happiness*
-
oh shit, you for real???? *goes an dies with happiness*
your scores are pretty good.
nearly 100%
Plus i expect this yr's cutoff would be similar as last year.(07')
so yeah...u will be good enough to get a A+ and 48+ if ur sac ranking is high as well.
-
HAHAHa i made a bet with a friend that there will be a Tasmania Jones question. Woot 10 bux to me!
-
What marks exam 1 and exam 2 do you reckon you need for a 25 raw?

hey - sacs i have 97/100, ranked third. i want to know, do you think id be penalised twice for messing up the domain when sketching graphs? it was one of those 'i am so dumb' moments, whoever heard of messing up a domain that is pretty unrestricted????
-
hey guys, yeh silly mistakes smashed me aswell, say 38/40 and 75/80, with high a+ sacs at mhs
what ss u think i can get
-
hey sam 2703 - not TOO sure, but probably 44+:)
-
sweet as 44 or above and im more than happy, by the way i doubt ud get penalised twice for the same mistake

nah. The assesors wont be too picky.
They will c that was a mistake which u have made twice.
only one cost marks.
It is same as consequential mark.Isnt it?

QUESTION PLEASE
I know everone is sick of these but what SS am I looking at:
100% SACS
30/40 EXAM 1
63-64 EXAM 2
(i scaled my marks down a bit)
Anyone?
-
Finally home.
I swear to god, the CAS exam was way too easy, should get near 80/80 :).
-
Equivalent to 07? Not a chance.
For some reason everyone is saying how hard 2007 was. 2007 was a breeze compared to this year's
Question 2 was very hard (Specially for people with poor algebraic skills)
The end of Question 4 got very technical. Think i stuffed it up
Hoping for 65/80+ whilst 38/40 exam 1.
-
Would will my study score be?
Exam 1: 40/40
Exam 2: 74-75/80
SACs: average in school (MHS student)
Thanks

In question 3a, it asks how long TO THE NEAREST MINUTE, Tas has to find an antidote.
t=(1/2)((e^2)-1)
=3.1945 hours
=3 hours, 11.67 minutes
Now, nearest minute could be 12 (to the nearest minute, strictly), although this would mean Tas dies. So really, he should have only 3 h and 11 minutes, which means you round down.
Am i correct?
btw, trinon's solutions has it at 3h 12m.
-
gabrielle, I trust myself over someone who got a 28 in legal.
This is why I don't put my scores in my signature. Why can't people just mind their own business? :(

From experience with external exams I would say 3h 12m. But then, it depends on the examiner's opinion I guess.
As long as you provided a reason for your choice, however, you would probably get the mark.

thanks DivideBy0, I did actually provide the reaosn why i rounded down, so it would be mega gay if I lost the mark.

Yeah I did that too, I had the calculations equaling 191.67 minutes, and then said "Therefore Tas has 191 minutes to find the antidote."

what kind of dropkick school do u goto? where u get 100% for sacs and only those marks in exams... your sac marks will be dragged down, probs lucky if u get 40
-
but i thought if your SAC marks arn't so good but u do good on your exams..then your SAC marks can get scaled up?
-
yes but he did average, so his sacs will go down
-
That means my ~50% SAC's will go down even more. :(
-
but i thought if your SAC marks arn't so good but u do good on your exams..then your SAC marks can get scaled up?
I think it's the other way around.
-
It's both lol
-
lol...wahhhh??? i dont get it?? i think i averaged out to like a C in my SACs i think i got a B-B+ in exam 1 and 2....doesnt that mean my SAc score will go up??
-
Now I'm confused. :S
-
oh and "B-B+" is meant to mean B to a B+ in exam 1 and 2 (not B minus).
-
Now I'm confused. :S
lol me tooooo.please someone explaiinnnn!!
-
i think its wat eva u get on ur exam... ur sac marks will get brought up to it... why would they bring ur exam score down to match ur sacs?? thats just stupid, coz not everyone has done the same sacs... but everyone does the same exam!!
soo like last year on bio i got a b+ on first exam... pretty much gave up for the year... was getting low b's and c's for sacs and then like a month before exams i decided to try and came out with an A+ on the exam.. my sac marks went up to an A..
hope that helps
-
awww well done!!..yeah i get it noww!!yay!!!! i still have hopee!!!
-
i think wat they do is if ur ranked 5 with an average sac score of say 80% and you get the highest exam result in your school, you get the sac score of whoever was ranked 1st in the sacs. not sure though
-
The top ranked student (in the school) gets the top EXAM mark (in their school) as their SAC mark.
So the third ranked student gets the third top exam mark as their sac mark.
-
Then what if the top student somehow screw up the exams while the 2nd or 3rd got perfect?
-
The top ranked student (in the school) gets the top EXAM mark (in their school) as their SAC mark.
So the third ranked student gets the third top exam mark as their sac mark.
so if you go to a really bad school(everyone fails ) and your a stand out whatever youve gotten throughout the year means little because your exam mark will be your sac mark? bit confusing lol
-
Then what if the top student somehow screw up the exams while the 2nd or 3rd got perfect?
The top student would still get the top exam score for the sac result. But his exam marks will stay the same.
The 2nd ranked would get the 2nd highest exam result as the sac result. But would retain the exam result.
-
Sorry but what do you mean by "exam score for the sac result" and "exam marks"? How are they different? Im confused.
-
Sorry but what do you mean by "exam score for the sac result" and "exam marks"? How are they different? Im confused.
GA1= sac result
GA2 + GA3= exam result
GA1 will scale according to the exam results.
GA2 + GA3 will stay the same regardless of rank.
-
Ah i think i understand now. Thanks for explaining.
-
can anyone tell me how they scale up our marks?
-

your sac marks get moderated against your exam performance...i think?

I scaled my marks down just to be sure.
I actually got about 33/40 exam 1 and 65/80 exam 2.

Lol, brings back so many memories :)
