Victorian Education Discussion / How much can a SAC ranking change from 2 SACs?
« Last post by shadman on July 18, 2022, 09:18:15 am »
Alr so this year I'm doing Chem 3/4 and so far throughout the year my Chem unit 3 SACs were alright and my rank was pretty good. The poster SAC for Unit 4 got me bad and now there are 2 SACs remaining before the exam, how much potential do I have to turn my ranking around again cause it flopped hard (still passed but the mark is trash). The goal is obviously at least a 40 so I need some info about this plz 🙏🏽

The University Journey Journal / Re: blasonduo's schooling to school!
« Last post by blasonduo on July 17, 2022, 10:08:35 pm »
Well well well...... where has the time gone?

I have not updated this in literally 3 years, but that's okay because nothing interesting happened...

Until today. This is my last day being unemployed. I have done it. I have landed myself a position at a school. Am I nervous? Yes. Has it kept me up? Yes. Will I crumble under the pressure? Probably.

I might use this space to reflect on my job and my ability to do it; that's if I have time. But at the very least; my schooling journey into school has almost reached it's conclusion.

Wish me luck :)

term 3, week 1

speaking of unis... I've decided i don't wanna do direct entry med. i was signed up for the ucat and everything but I've since withdrawn and glad i did so. i could already tell the pressure of direct entry wasn't going to be beneficial for me at this point in time due to a number of reasons and also felt that a broader degree of biomed or even science might be better for me. i just want to be entirely sure that med is what i wanna do. i feel so much better after making the decision - all i need is an 85 and i'll be able to get into at least one of the degrees i'm aiming for

I resonate with this so much!! Congrats on some amazing SAC scores, if you need some advice on the post-grad med route or other pathways in healthcare, feel free to send me a pm I'd be happy to share my experience/journey (as well insights from my peers) about this!

All the best,
T&S

VCE Biology / Re: VCE Biology Question Thread

hey, why are dendritic cells better antigen presenting cells than macrophages?
thanks

DCs can activate naive T-cells whereas macrophages can't. Macrophages can only present to Th cells that are already activated

VIC Year 10 Discussion / Re: Kwong Lee dow young scholars program

Howdy! haha always wanted to say that

I'm really sorry in advance but I won't be much help.

But last year (when I was in year 10), in my school we had 5 students that were endorsed and then from there, anyone of us could apply and then one was chosen for the KLD program by UniMelb. Alas was not selected, so I have no idea what the KLD program provides.

But I would say to ask your career counsellors and your year-level coordinators about the endorsement since it opens in August, getting the endorsement prior to the opening would enable you to make the application process less hectic. Another thing is that when I applied it never really asked who endorsed you, so like even if you apply with endorsement if would let you apply

Sorry I wasn't much of help

You got this! :)

 term 3, week 1
okay... i've become very slack with keeping this journal up to date... oops. i feel like i go through phases where all i wanna do is write down every minor moment of my life, and other times i just can't be bothered. some non-school related things I've done recently include making a new music playlist (very monumental thing for me as i have very specific taste), developed an iced matcha latte addiction, purchased more notebooks that will remain blank for a very long period of time, cleaned out my desk and drawers, and bought A LOT of craft items like cross stitching kits and gem art lmao.

my goals for this term are:
- to give myself an hour of screen free/leisure time each night before i go to bed (kind of have been doing this but got slack)
- go to bed at a decent time (again slack)
- begin some kind of exam prep
- study for sacs 2/3 weeks out

now onto my specific subjects:

english
so i got 27/30 on my text response which i am extremely relieved about. i still haven't gotten a rubric back yet or anything so idk what to work on lol. I've done both my analysing arguments and oral sac but haven't got either back... i feel good (?) about both i think. we've started comparative now and i'm already crippling. it's my least favourite area but a lot of people are in the same boat ig
bio
bio just treats me right idk. like I've never had a rage over the subject so it's a blessing. i got 39/40 on my last sac which was kinda of a shock but definitely pretty motivating for me. i'm enjoying the responding to pathogens unit too... it's a bit to take in but since i actually like the content it makes it a lot easier to process
chem
chem is love-hate as per usual. I've got 31/35 and 37/40 on my last sacs which was okay with but i just don't know how to improve in chem atm. i feel like i haven't been progressing lately. idk? i don't mind the organic chemistry stuff; i think i'm getting the hang of it now. it just irritates me sometimes lmao
methods
methods is good atm. we're doing integration which I've just finished in spesh so it's a good recap and makes it easy to get ahead. I've also had a look through the probability/statistics unit and i don't mind some of it thank god. i got 99% on my u3 sac which again was a shock but very glad about
spec
spec is nice as usual. i'm feeling a bit nervous because we're beginning kinematics/mechanics which was definitely my weak area last year and caused more than one mental breakdown. so i will brace myself. i got 91% on my u3 sac which i was genuinely so happy with lol. my marks last year for spec were very inconsistent and not what i was aiming for so to hit a 90 was extremely rewarding!

this term is definitely going to be a big one but i can't believe how quickly the year has gone! it's quite nerve-racking to think this is our last full term after more than a decade of school. while it's definitely scary, i'm also very excited to start uni next year.

speaking of unis... I've decided i don't wanna do direct entry med. i was signed up for the ucat and everything but I've since withdrawn and glad i did so. i could already tell the pressure of direct entry wasn't going to be beneficial for me at this point in time due to a number of reasons and also felt that a broader degree of biomed or even science might be better for me. i just want to be entirely sure that med is what i wanna do. i feel so much better after making the decision - all i need is an 85 and i'll be able to get into at least one of the degrees i'm aiming for

anyways... i hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and has had a smooth start to term 3. best of luck to everyone!
