« on: January 27, 2009, 06:26:30 pm »
so how many hours of study should we dedicate to study this year? i have 16 contact hours. and i heard that you have to do twice this in your own time. is this correct? im just wondering so as i can let my aunty know how many hours i can work while im at uni.

to those whose first year was in 08, did you have much of a social life?

thanks :)

Maybe you'll work out what suits you when you actually start. I guess you'll get an idea of what you have to do to feel on top of your work or youy may just chooose to hhave a minimal approach to work during the semester and then cram during the last weeks or so.

Yeah, it's different for everyone as to how much private study they need in order to do well. I think in the first couple of weeks, set it at about 10 and see how you go. You may want to work less than that during exam time though. Also, you're living in a residential hall, right? If so, that will involve quite a bit of socialising!

You will have plenty of time if you manage yourself correctly.

It is quite a long year, really.

To be honest I think I'll end up over studying in the first semester for dead fear of failing my subjects.

Yep! That was definitely me last semester.

But I reckon everyone should try to keep a balance between study and social life.
Too much study can make you go depressed, possibly insane :P
Too much socialising may result in you doing poorly in your subjects.

well for me i studied much less in uni cause there was no motivation. my only times i actually studied were when we had to hand in pracs, do quizzes, assignments... and then i crammed for exams. that worked out alright for me so yeah. each to their own. if you want to study heaps go ahead

Most people I know in university socialise and work a LOT more than they did in school, if that says anything.
