'the past is inescapable and must be confronted' Amir's story shows how true this is. Discuss

can anyone locate this quote in the book. i don't remember seeing it.
i need to know because usually in quote-style questions i was told you should refer to when the quote was said, its significance and who it was said to

thanks

From the way it's structured, I don't think that's a quote at all. You'll often have topics like that which take a statement, and expect you to agree/disagree with it, and I think that 'quote' is simply that; a statement.

On VCAA exams, actual quotes from the book are in double quotes " ", general statements about the book are in single quotes ' '.

Can somebody correct my introduction? It is in response to the above topic. Please, Im no good at english. I need all the help i can get.

The Kite Runner follows the journey from Kabul to California through the eyes of the protagonist, Amir. Amir is consumed with winning the approval of his father, Baba. In doing so, he betrays his loyal friend, Hassan and breaks a 40 year old friendship between Hassan’s father, Ali and Baba. Instead of vindicating himself, Amir seeks refuge in California, to puruse a writing career, but most importantly to go ‘someplace…with no memories.’ In spite of this ideology, Amirs past ‘claws its way out’ in the form of a phone call from Rahim Khan who tells him that ‘there is a way to be good again.’ Amir is left with no choice but to return to his homeland to atone for not only his sins but his father’s also. In the process, he must confront Assef. Cowardice and disloyalty would have prevented him from doing this. However his ability to learn forgiveness and his motivation to save Sohrab enable him to challenge Assef, along with his past. It is only when his past is confronted that enables him to feel ‘healed.’

Too much story telling and quotes for an introduction. Evidence isn't required in an introduction and shouldn't be there at all IMO as it's something reserved for your body paragraphs to explain your IDEAS, and ideas should be making up the bulk of your introduction. Get straight to the point and address the actual essay topic rather than talking generally on the book. Background information isn't required as it is assumed examiners have such knowledge to begin with. However regardless, you shouldn't be needing to refer to events and such in the introduction anyway, but rather, introducing a set of general ideas in relation to Amir's story, and the ways in which it shows the past is inescapable.

The pieces in the examiner's reports usually are only around a 8 out of 10 standard, and aren't the best thing to be measuring yourself against. Still, the fact that such a structure is in there suggests that you probably won't be marked down for it, but I still don't see the purpose of doing so. You're wasting words, and you've provided very little insight into the topic whilst using many words. More so, you're wasting all your evidence before even hitting your body paragraphs since you shouldn't be quoting the same thing twice. However, the choice is up to you. It's often hard to define any rights and wrongs in English, and any advice I give is against the way I write.
